Haawan Dasta - Imaam Dasta?????

How many of you remember that?

I do not see that here in USA in the households.. but back in the days when I was in Pakistan, or even when I still visit Pakistan, I see it’s being used there very frequently for pounding the masaalas etc. My daadi used to have that Chakki in which she used to grind fresh spices, red pepper etc. …

Speaking of Haawan dasta, there is even an idiom in urdu… The muhaavra goes like:

Jub Okhli maiN sar diyaa tau MoosloN kaa kiyaa dar/MoosloN saY kiyaa darnaa

where, Okhli is Haawan and Moosal is the pounding of Dasta…

and the idiom itself means that once taken a bold decision, then why backtrack, just be a man and face up the consequences with dignity.

No... Okhli is AV , Moosal is 'wo sab' and Sar is AQ :-D

the original haavan dasta is pure iron. As for sil baTa, actually i have seen it here in NY even sold in shop :stuck_out_tongue:

Yaro is ko CHATTU DASTA nahe CHATTU WATTA kehtey hain..aur yeh HaaWan sey Mukhtalif Hota hey..

Aur haan , Yeh Punjabi ka lafz nahee, adopt ker liya geya hey
