Do some of you prefer to workout outside rather than indoors? I am getting sick of the boring gym and want to explore other things like hiking or walking down a park or running down the street. Any other methods?
Re: Gym versus Outdoors
park - best way.
Also get a team of girls together and play soccer or something on a Saturday, or paintball or anything that involves a lot of running around. My buddies and I often go for lasertag when possible.
Re: Gym versus Outdoors
try skipping!!!
im serious...skipping is so much fun and plus as Ali said..."float like a butterfly, sting like a bee"
dont skip in the park though...try ur backgarden or yard..or wotever...
Re: Gym versus Outdoors
I prefer the great outdoors too, weather permitting (although I do like going for a run when its raining lightly). As well as running or walking, you could try cycling or skipping. There's more variety to outdoor workouts than you'd think.
Re: Gym versus Outdoors
I LOVE to swim
Re: Gym versus Outdoors
PCG...I was thinking more along the lines of tennis or something
M_M...you are cute
Shahreen...you would not believe how great the weather has been for the past two weeks.
Majestic...where do you swim? Wish i could, need to put that in the things-to-do list. Last weeekend I was down at the beach, just a light run and a mile long walk with water running down my feet was so soothing. You guys must think I am nuts but i have never enjoyed walking as much.
Re: Gym versus Outdoors
I love my gym. If I dont go there, I use the treadmill indoors.
Re: Gym versus Outdoors
Walking around the block or park is the best. However, since the weather here is unsuitable for outdoor excercise for 6-8 months, it leaves many of us with no other option, but to workout indoors.
Re: Gym versus Outdoors
outdoors all the way!
ive tried both gym and outdoor activities.. and i find that walking for about 40min outside is way mroe affective than being at the gym.. but it could be different for individuals
Re: Gym versus Outdoors
Diva… what do you do at the gym to keep you motivated to come back again? I usually have to wait about 10-20 minutes just to find a machine (I usually go at peak hours since I have no other choice). Personally, I hate big crowds at the gym.
Sadiyah….I feel you girlfriend, it sucks when it rains although lately I love walking when it is a bit sprinkling. So when the weather doesn’t permit do you go to a local gym or exercise at home?
Re: Gym versus Outdoors
Sadzzz…it would be nice if you could list some of your activities. I would love to try new things
Re: Gym versus Outdoors
sidra the only thing i do is walking… and that too like a maniac… i find the more i wave my arms about the better i feel (i sound like phoebe off friends)… but honestly, power walking is good :k:
Re: Gym versus Outdoors
Try doing weight lifting - for a killer cardio rest minimal between sets. Try increasing the weight every 10 days. Youll build muscle and burn fat the same time at least for a while.
Re: Gym versus Outdoors
Outdoors can be a bit dangerous, last week I went on a 3 mile run as usual and ended up in a shop buying an ice cream sandwich.
Re: Gym versus Outdoors
LOL forget rain… it snows here like crazy, plus the windchill factor doesn’t allow you to stay outside for too long. Therefore, most of us are stuck indoors.
I excercise at home.
Re: Gym versus Outdoors
hahah thats cute… my solution to this is to wear ur most daggiest outfit and oil ur hair… works like a charm :k: i think it drives away insects too
Re: Gym versus Outdoors
LOL! You must really care about how you appear at the malls in order for you stay away from them. At the same time, if you do care about how you appear in public, shouldn’t you be dressing up nice when going out for a walk just in case you run into someone or someone sees you driving by?
Re: Gym versus Outdoors
^ ummz na im not too fussed about what i look like... im alway seen at the shops in my trackies and slippers.. no big deal for me :) but yeah.... oiling the hair does keep me away.. most of the time haha..
b/w once ur out there for about 20min huffing and puffing and trying to lose weight, u forget bout lollies and all those yummy stuff in the shops
Re: Gym versus Outdoors
Whoa! So workout keeps you away from devouring junkfood? It's the total opposite for me and probably many others as well.
I force myself to workout/walk and I reward myself by getting some sort of snack.
Re: Gym versus Outdoors
^ really? na... i find that if ive worked out... all i wanna do is eat healthy stuff.
Its when people tell me "u look like uve lost weight.. what have u been doing"... i go and divulge in something fattening for about a week... im pathetic hehe
