I’m not giving reasons here, I’m just saying what NORMALLY happens in Pakistan. It can be an awkward situation as the OP has said if his family is getting proposals from girls families.

This is not normally called a proposal, the proposals being discussed here are the ones where both families are directly involved. It is awkward in such situations as the OP has said.

Thanks, Bud, I thought so too. I am surprised how clueless some people are about Pakistani culture and practices.
