GUPSHUP took a big leap and …landed in a kala endless khoo.
i admit defeat. integration with paklinks was a bad idea. playing around with the identity that we created over 20 years was a bad idea. i should have worked to improve what we have and not try to become what we are not.
i seriously considered shutting down all operations. wasnt worth the hassle and crap that I was getting from everywhere. until i realized it was ME who was to blame.
kher. i will attempt to pull GS out of the khoo. we have done it in the past. i have hopes. here is my plan:
give GS its identity back. we used to operate under gupshup.org. thats where we shall go back to.
clean up and modernize the interface. this includes posting editor, image uploader, blogs, etc.
remove some of the unused features, like featured!
allow anyone to change their avatars and tag lines.
consider bringing back chat and instant messaging
relaunch native GS IOS and Android apps
when the house is clean and tidy, email everyone with over 1000 posts and invite them back. we have never done this in GS history. I think its time to call.
once again, i take full responsibility for all this fiasco. i apologize to anyone who i did not listen to. i offer free foot massages to any toes I stepped on. my strategy was flawed and incomplete. but I have thought about it at length now. I know what needs to be done.
no wonder. i was wondering where chat had went since i was a very keen user back in the days but then again i don’t blame you askari cos few years back i did pop in and out and it was completely dead.
See the problem.is that i can only use my android phone to access gs (chrome browser) …i don’t have a laptop or computer. Before the “big change” i would/could select desktop version of the site, which now i cannot. The page loads as a moblile version and when i click on the blogs block, it doesnt work, it just goes to the search page. Hope that makes sense?
same problem I faced. Then I touched list icon in bottom LHS of my cell phone, a list type window appeared on screen, then touched “request desktop site” and desktop site appeared. simple kapadia.
theme and several other usability issues are under the knife as I write this. expect major improvements in the coming days. lots of my focus has been on native GS apps. that alone should vastly improve user experience.
GS lost something precious in last few years.. well the good users. Sometimes it feel that all of us grownup now but then its something crave from inside wanted the old gs back. But then with all the hulla/gulla of enhancements to core vbulletin was presented as going to mars kind a thing. I mean come on in 2016 you can’t FIX image uploader a core functionality of Vbulletin. It’s better to take retirement and hand it over to 10 member board with no veto power from site admin. If you ask nicely i can become chairman of board
You guys have to sit down and formulate a strategy and stick to it. Leave it as a niche community and spend energy on retaining what left and start the hard work of getting the prime jewels back. Go for 100% mobile compatibility with native IOS/Android apps because that’s how 70% of us use internet.
doob maro for destroying 2 decades worth of hard work
