Urgh! I hate punjabi movies. Urdu movies are way better (and that's saying a lot!).
Anjuman and Sultan Rahi did not know how to act - i dont know kyu itna hype hoowa tha. sultan rahi , sultan rahi, sultan rahi. The man was a hero for the down and oppressed because he would be the one fighting the wadera, etc. Frankly, outside of Pakistan's Punjab, no one has any respect for these movies. Aik zamana tha, jab urdu movies bohat achi banthi thi. Even that standard has fallen and Punjabi films are even lower. Aik tho koi dance moves hee nahin hai. Ek tang upar karli Anjuman ne, so that we could see the shape of her enormous thigh. Wow, very sexy indeed! Not. Doosra, koi graceful dresses pehen le - but no, she couldn't do that either. Aur dialogue tho subhanala! The only punjabi actress i've ever had any admiration for is Saima. And that is because she tries to put the best performance in every role she gets, even if its the most ridiculous role in the world.
I think some karachiites should start entering the movie business. I think we'd see a fresh change. The movie industry needs to expand outside of Lahore.
Movies are made with the target audience in mind. Punjabi movies are made with the same mindset. The producers know very well that their productions are not realistic, but they work with the masses. The fact is, more people watch punjabi movies than do urdu movies in Pakistan. Just that in most cases, pakistanis bypass Pakistani urdu movies for indian movies, which is pathetic. The vulgarity and outrageous dance moves that are cursed at in punjabi movies, are accepted with open arms from a madhuri or a kajol.
Sultan rahi and Anjuman all the way! (and i mean all the way.)
