the majority of the Pakistani public watches Indian movies, if you compare with percentage of Pakistan that watches Punjabi movies. Hindi movies are the equivalent of Urdu movies in terms of language and style of film-making. HOwever, due to downgraded conditions of the Pakistani urdu film industry, people turn to India for movies of their own culture. NOw, if Urdu movies could level themselves in quality with India, I'm sure you'd see the majority of Pakistan viewing Urdu movies in place of Punjabi movies. Also, the fact of the matter is that there are three other provinces in Pakistan and Punjab is only the fourth. Even though population wise, punjabis may outnumber the other respective ethnic groups, punjabi population still does not exceed 50 percent of the whole nation's population. Thus, i feel that Urdu, being the uniting language of the land, would be more successful if due attention was given to that part of the film industry. And frankly, the punjabi film industry is quite lowly and demeaning to women. No actress is given a substantial role. An actress's function is to primarily appear as if she is having an orgasm while dancing.
