GTA Photographers and Decorators... Please Advise!

Re: GTA Photographers and Decorators… Please Advise!

Is Omair your husband?

Re: GTA Photographers and Decorators... Please Advise!

I met Nisha recently - she's such a nice lady! But yeah, she's expensive and she said it herself
I looove her quality of work though
I think for a single event (besides mehendi) - the lowest she'll probably go is $3k (around there - maybe a bit higher)... obviously depending on the number of people

Re: GTA Photographers and Decorators... Please Advise!

Anyone have any feedback regarding Shaheen from Exquisite Events or Mandy from Khazana Creations? How's their work and the service? Thanks!

Re: GTA Photographers and Decorators... Please Advise!

^^I met Mandy from Khazana Creations.. I thought she was OK. She said it would be about $2300 for 2 days (excluding the love seats).. I didn't think she was superb or anything though.

I'm soo confused!! I really like Naphishas work but she's so bad with returning calls etc. I saw her a week back Thursday and she said she needs a week to give me a quote. SHe called me and said I have to come see her but her schedules soo busy! I dont get to see her till like next week now. Anyways.. Naphisha told me about $1300 to $2500 for a day.. I dont knw what this includes Thiss is her price range she said.. (I only spoke to her very briefly and she wont discuss anything over the phone!). Will let you know what she says...

Does anyone have experience with Far East?? I thought her work was good for the price she quoted me...

I'm so confused :(

Re: GTA Photographers and Decorators... Please Advise!

I am having such a tough time with decorators too! I really don't want to work with someone that doesn't deserve my money... It's been over a week and Diya still hasn't gotten back to me with a proposal or reply of any kind. I even emailed her twice. Nisha hasn't returned my email either.

I've started talking to Shaheen and Far East... so far they have responded to my queries within a day. I'll let you know how it goes... but I am really starting to worry that I won't love my wedding decor!

Re: GTA Photographers and Decorators... Please Advise!

I used Laila for my wedding, mainly because my mother (who was footing most of the bill) preferred Laila as a person and wanted to do business with her.

I was actually delighted with the result, but as i found her portfolio of previous events was quite crappy, I had to tell her what I wanted rather than applying her previous work or elements thereof. I would recommend going to the other Indian designers for ideas (they are very pricey), then form a mental image in your mind, and go back to Laila to ger her to implement them.

I found her ability to be great, her imagination less so, her prices just right. Work out exactly what you want, and then describe it to laila, get her to draw it out, and then get a price.

Re: GTA Photographers and Decorators... Please Advise!

I looked for quite a few decorators for my wedding...I actually ended up booking more than one (to take care of different parts of the reception) because not everyone understood my vision very well. One person who did was Shannon Desouza from ialuxury.ca
She's VERY helpful & super sweet :)

Re: GTA Photographers and Decorators... Please Advise!

A squared, are you attending any of the wedding shows this month? I know a lot of the decorators are going to be attending, so maybe that would be a good chance to talk to the ones you weren't able to get in touch with.

Have you narrowed down your search for a photographer yet?

Re: GTA Photographers and Decorators... Please Advise!

Hey A squared,

I thought I would just share some tips and questions you can ask when looking for a photographer.

Do they own there own equipment?

What type of camera do they use?

Do they have a backup camera?

Is editing the images part of the deal?

I know finding a photographer can be a difficult thing now a days. Everyone seems to think they are a photographer. Hopefully these questions will separate the real photographers from the hobbyists.

Good luck!

Re: GTA Photographers and Decorators... Please Advise!

Yes, I'm going to go to both Suhaag and Kismet shows this month. Hopefully I'll be able to meet a good few vendors that I'll want to work with. My biggest issue so far has been that some of these vendors really suck at customer service and replies! The service part is a really big deal to me... I want to work with people that I like and that will make my day pleasant... not a complete headache if there are conflicts.

Thanks for the tips BC!

Re: GTA Photographers and Decorators... Please Advise!

I just found my email from Dawn @ Yellow Barn & she quoted me $5500 for 3 days

I think the wedding shows r good but most of the vendors will tell u to call/email them... I met Raj (Dream Party Decor) & he was sweet & gave me quotes for wat he had on display (I think he had 3 different looks on display) but nething other than that, they want you to meet them... which is reasonable & understandable

Itz a great way to check out the different vendors & their styles etc

Re: GTA Photographers and Decorators… Please Advise!

For photography try Strokes Photography - they are fairly new. My fiances friend used them for his wedding, and he was very happy with the pictures.

Its now OS photography on facebook!

Re: GTA Photographers and Decorators... Please Advise!

A squared: have you had any luck finding your decorator? i'm still looking but only met a couple, most seem to be quite busy, would love to get some suggestions and feedback. thanks!!

Re: GTA Photographers and Decorators... Please Advise!

I booked with Jyoti Decor. The guy that Woodbine and Chandni recommend. His website is a bit weak, but if you see his portfolio, his work is good. And if you show him something you like, he can do a good job re-creating the look... of course not something crazy fancy like Dream Party with all the structures.
And his prices are WAY better! The stage cost includes cake table, receiving table, stage cover, head table, podium, pretty much whatever you want! Everyone else charges at an extra $150 for each of those items.
Everyone I met, I thought was overcharging for their work...

Re: GTA Photographers and Decorators... Please Advise!

^He did my mehndi decor. The thing with him is that you have to explain it all to him in detail. But considering the price, it's worth it.
I will say though, his aesthetic sense comes off a bit tacky.

Re: GTA Photographers and Decorators... Please Advise!

That's true... He's not that good with conceptualizing if you have an idea, you really have to guide him. I showed him pics, went to his house to choose the fabric, and explained every detail the way I wanted it. My wedding is next week, I'll let you know if I regret it!

Re: GTA Photographers and Decorators... Please Advise!

I met with Shaheen Iqbal too... she's a good seller and will work on price though charges for EVERY little thing, but I've heard she really over-promises and under-delivers.

Re: GTA Photographers and Decorators... Please Advise!

I want someone to cover ONE EVENT in the evening, which is the actual wedding.

How much will they charge? Reasonable is anything under 1000 dollars.
