I think its a move in right direction - there was a indian lobby asking for Amarnath to be made coach - but the board ignored all that and took a right decision.

Yes I agree,Chappell was the most logical choice given his experience both as a player and coach,plus he is one of the great thinkers of the game.All the best to him for this assignment.

Poor Desmond.
He would have been a better choice to bring about little 'Fighting spirit' in to the indians,,,
Greg Chappal will be too clinical about his approach, and that means complete revitalization cum 2 - 3 years,,, IMO

He is a superstitious guy.. and i dont think people with such a narrow mind can do any good at coaching a team. And anyway he cant complain as his buddy( Gavaskar) was there in the selection commattee.

I think he has less coaching experience.. he is more like a marketer.. well that is what BCCI wants..
I would have prefered Tom Moody.

He has a very shred cricketing brain and would make a good coach. I dont know about his club level coaching experience but at the highest level this is surely hsi first time.

I don’t think his job would be teach Indian Cricketers how to play. We all know they are very good players, his job will be to make them a team like they were in 2003 World Cup.

I recall this saying from a cricket star, cant remember his name... well the fact that matter is...
"A team is built around teamwork (all 11 players) and not individual stars."
Indian team is full of stars and now they have got a superstar coach, it will be make or break.
Personally I think Amarnath or Haynes would have been a better choice.

I am not sure that it is a good choice. He was a brilliant batsmen and one of my favourites. His batting during the 70's was a treat to watch. However, does that make him a good coach? Has he done any coaching previously, if so, how successful was he? Anyone knows?
Anyways, he has a big task ahead of him and good luck to him.

the famous under ball incident happened in 1981 against NZ ..Trevor Chappel was bowling the last ball and six runs were required of it - Greg was the captain - He asked Trevor to bowl under arm to prevent Kiwi from winning the match...there were no specific rules in ICC to prevent underbowling...later ICC amended the laws preventing under arm bowling
