Govt provided faulty jammers: Benazir (26th Dec)

I remember reading this yesterday, and just today this happened. I guess she was right. I wonder why the Govt would provide her faulty jammers? Anyone intelligent enough to figure that out?

Islamabad, December 25 : **Former Pakistan Premier Benazir Bhutto-led PPP on Tuesday alleged that the jammers provided to her by the government to protect her from bomb attacks during the election campaign were faulty and exposed her to a “high risk.” **
Rehman Malik, a Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and Security Advisor to Bhutto, asked the Interior Ministry to provide “fault-free jammers along with a technician to ensure full protection” to her from any attempted attack. This is the third time that the PPP has complained to the Interior Ministry about jammers provided to Bhutto being faulty. Bhutto survived a suicide bomb attack on her homecoming rally in Karachi on October 18 that killed 140 people.
In his letter to the Interior Secretary, Malik, a former Federal Investigation Agency chief, said: “I regret to inform that the jammers provided by Sindh Police to cover the movements of Benazir Bhutto on 23-12-2007 did not work, which is a serious lapse in the light of the serious security threat already conveyed to us by Brig Javed Iqbal Cheema, Director General, National Crisis Management Cell, Ministry of Interior.” “Similarly, the jammers provided for the protection of Benazir Bhutto during her trip to Rahimyar Khan on December 24 also failed to work, exposing (her) to a high risk.”

Re: Govt provided faulty jammers: Benazir (26th Dec)

Why need jammers in the first place? Can anyone remind us of that?

P.S. Jammers don't matter when you have a wire going to your body.

Re: Govt provided faulty jammers: Benazir (26th Dec)

First tell me why Govt gave her faulty jammers.

Re: Govt provided faulty jammers: Benazir (26th Dec)

We don't know who said that they were faulty. PPP Security Personnel trained in anti-jamming hackery? Discussing this is beside the point anyway. Jammers used to provide security against remote controlled bombs where cell phones are used as triggers. They can' do siht against your Taleban suicide bombers.

Re: Govt provided faulty jammers: Benazir (26th Dec)

Benazir said so, a day before she died.

What, discussing why she was given faulty anti-terrorism equipment is now besides the apoint?

There are many steps the Govt failed to take, and this is just one chanda. Instead of saying its irrelevent to discuss this, learn to admit the fact that there is more than meets the eye here.

Re: Govt provided faulty jammers: Benazir (26th Dec)

How do I know, even if that is true? Why was she standing outside her car?

Re: Govt provided faulty jammers: Benazir (26th Dec)

^^ She was waving the crowd.

Re: Govt provided faulty jammers: Benazir (26th Dec)

Even if it's true, I only see passive complicity in the security provided to her, and not active participation on behalf of the Govt. Pakistan agency personnel are not in the business of blowing themselves up. You need a highly motivated person to do that, and we know where they come from.

Re: Govt provided faulty jammers: Benazir (26th Dec)

Didn't she know what happened to her in Karachi? Why let the crowd get so close?

Re: Govt provided faulty jammers: Benazir (26th Dec)

Because it is, and I dont see any rebuttals by the Govt explaining how they were just fine and dandy.

Unlike 'certain' leaders, she was popular and had guts.

Re: Govt provided faulty jammers: Benazir (26th Dec)

Just read her CNN interview from November, I posted it. That wasnt the only 'passive complicity' she pointed out alot of things.

Re: Govt provided faulty jammers: Benazir (26th Dec)

It's been one day only.

She had the lives of others in her hands as well. Maybe all of the 20 (and 120 in Karachi) around her didn't want to die as much as she did. She should have stayed inside the car.

Re: Govt provided faulty jammers: Benazir (26th Dec)

The 20 with her werent sticking up from their sun roofs with her, and still died. And stop diverting the topic on her or blaming her, this thread is about the Govts inability to provide her security on purpose.

Re: Govt provided faulty jammers: Benazir (26th Dec)

Because she was always someone who would meet the people

Re: Govt provided faulty jammers: Benazir (26th Dec)

I don't know what you want me to say Spock. I don't know who did this, I suspect Al-Qaeda because they are the ones who had been threatening her and have the most to benefit from her death:

Goal 1: kill her, probably pM and their enemy,
Goal 2: Neutralize Musharraf, and possibly topple him,
Goal 3: Intimidate Pakistanis and keep them from fighting Talebans
Goal 4: Incite a civil war in Pakistan and benefit from the chaos

I am 'pro-Musharraf' but I have wanted him to leave since 2004, let alone now. But right now is not the time to worry about who's leaving or not. It's time to worry about Taleban takign over the country (even if you believe that Govt. killed Benazir, Taleban are still a threat).

Re: Govt provided faulty jammers: Benazir (26th Dec)

They were outside crowding around the car mostly. If you have a suicide bomb threat against you, than you don't stick your head out of your bullet proof car in a crowd. Did she think she was invincible?

Re: Govt provided faulty jammers: Benazir (26th Dec)

Those people are now dead.

Re: Govt provided faulty jammers: Benazir (26th Dec)

What I want you to say is obvious. Admit the fact that atleast the Govt failed to provide her with the adequate security she needed. And I dont just think ti was al-CIAda that threatened her, she mentioned alot of times that it was the present establishment with the help of the intelligence that targetted her. Even one of her top critics, and former caretaker prime minister, Balak Sher Mizari said so today.

Re: Govt provided faulty jammers: Benazir (26th Dec)

No, she was brave.

Give up your vain attempts

Re: Govt provided faulty jammers: Benazir (26th Dec)

Whatever, thats not what im ranting about. I am talking about people who helped kill her, and how they provided her with inadequate security. If you want to know why she stuck her head up, go ask her not me.
