Governor urges federal govt to renew Durand Line agreement

This is a Pakistani official talking about the illegal Durand line. It is time for Pakistan to return the Afghan land (NWFP and Baluchistan) and recognize the natural boundary (Indus river) between Pakistan and Afghanistan. This will happen sooner or later, It will not benefit Pakistan in anyway to hang on to Afghan land. The sooner the better, no Afghan governement will ever renew this agreement, even Taliban refused to renew this.

Governor urges federal govt to renew Durand Line agreement

Bureau Report
PESHAWAR, Sept 21: NWFP Governor Khalilur Rehman on Wednesday called upon federal authorities to renew an agreement on the demarcation of borders between Pakistan and Afghanistan as the same had expired.

The official term of the Durand Line Agreement has expired and I have asked the federal government to seek its renewal,” Governor Khalil said.

His remarks came in response to a question about Pakistan’s proposal on fencing the border with Afghanistan. The comments are likely to re-ignite a controversy over whether or not the 1893 Durand Line Agreement is time-specific.

The agreement signed between the then ruler of Afghanistan, Amir Abdur Rehman and Sir Henry Mortimer Durand had led to the demarcation of boundaries between the then British India and Afghanistan.

For decades Afghanistan has disputed the so-called Durand Line with some Afghan historians claiming that the agreement signed under duress was vaild for 100 years only. According to those historians the agreement had expired in January 1993.

The English text of the agreement, however, does not mention any time limit.

On the border-fencing proposal, the governor said that Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan was long and porous and hadn’t been demarcated clearly at several points.

But the governor said the proposal had raised hackles as many Afghan tribesmen who had their kith and kin living on this side of the border were uncomfortable with the idea.

**TRIBAL AREAS INTEGRATION INTO THE NWFP: **The governor backed calls for tribal areas’ integration into the NWFP, saying the move would benefit tribesmen.

“I personally think it (integration) is good for the tribal people,” he said. “Frankly, I support this idea.”

But the government needs to develop the tribal areas, he said. “You bring development to the area and then see how the tribal people can integrate with rest of the country,” he said.

About amending the Frontier Crimes Regulation, Gov Khalil acknowledged that certain clauses of the British-era law were in conflict with human rights and said that a committee he had set up was visiting the tribal areas to elicit the views of the tribal people and suggest suitable amendments.

**BAITULLAH MEHSUD: **The governor expressed concern at recent incidents in South Waziristan and said that he would urge Corps Commander in Peshawar, Lt Gen. Safdar Hussain, to call in militant commander Baitullah Mehsud to discuss the situation with him.

“I am going to give it a shot,” he said and held the view that Baitullah was doing something that the government could not tolerate. “He (Baitullah) is asking people to close audio shops and is trying to introduce the Taliban system.”

He said that at time of signing the peace deal with the government, Mehsud had a total of eighty people with him. “Now he has gathered around 2,000 people and he is asking people to do this and that.”

The NWFP governor’s statement about Abdullah Mehsud is at variance with Lt Gen Safdar’s who at a recent press conference in Peshawar had described the militant commander as a “soldier of peace”.

The governor admitted that the situation in Shakai in South Waziristan was getting bad again and militants were violating the terms of the peace accords signed with the government. He said that the government could not fight at two fronts simultaneously, referring to the ongoing military operations in North Waziristan and the fresh disturbances in South Waziristan.

Re: Governor urges federal govt to renew Durand Line agreement

nwfp and Balochistan belong to Pakistan.. If anyting, we should take more Afghan land.. God knows we would use it better.

Re: Governor urges federal govt to renew Durand Line agreement

Baby, you need some good lessons in geopolitics. It is too late now. Borders of Pakistan could not “be extended” during Taliban regime when Afghanistan was passing through worst phase of its history, today the realities are entirely different.

This is a very very very significant development. Governers could not have given this statement on his own; first official recognition of the fact that Durand Line treaty has expired. Of course this is an exciting statement.

Re: Governor urges federal govt to renew Durand Line agreement

The Afghans cannot control what they have right now; approximately 11-12 provinces are out of central governments reach. No way, they can handle more. Infact I support the idea the we should get some of their territory, we can use it to better use...

Re: Governor urges federal govt to renew Durand Line agreement

Pakis are the most Kuttay-Kameenay, Baygheyrat, dirty (both physically and mentally), stubborn idiots on the face of this planet.

How and why do NWFP/FATA, Balochistan and part of the Northern-Areas belong to your artificial post colonial British construct of a country??? They should be freed from Paki occupation.

The heritage, the culture, the language, the values, the traditions, the phenotype and everything of the people to the west of the Indus is different from the people towards the east of the Indus.. Obviously now they’re getting influenced by our culture in a few places but they were originally as different from this side of the Indus as night is from day.

Is it any wonder everyone hates Punjabis so much? Scum, bloofy scum… Used Islamic brotherhood, and now fake Paki nationalism to their benefit and the Pashtuns have been stupid enough to fall for it all…

Re: Governor urges federal govt to renew Durand Line agreement

i’m glad you’ve finally stumbled upon the truth.

Re: Governor urges federal govt to renew Durand Line agreement

Re: Governor urges federal govt to renew Durand Line agreement

And this Governor must be slow, an answer was already issued 2 years ago...

Durand Line A Close Chapter: Pakistan

**
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: July 27 (PNS) - Foreign Office Saturday said that Pak-Afghan border known as Durand Line is a settled matter and there is no move to re-negotiate the issue.

Foreign Office Spokesman, Masood Khan while replying to questions by newsmen at a briefing here said Durand Line is a closed chapter as border between Pakistan and Afghanistan is proper, well recognized and verifiable through modern technical means. He said both the countries know what is the line that divides them.

Re: Governor urges federal govt to renew Durand Line agreement

This is what the WORLD thinks about the Durand Line…

Some Pashtun tribes in Afghanistan and Pakistan still want to dissolve the Durand Line, however the issue has lost its previous support due to Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and subsequent chaos and the tenuous rebuilding that is taking place in post-Taliban Afghanistan.

**In hindsight, the Durand Line has saved the Pakistani Pakhtuns from the ravages of warfare that affected Afghanistan after the 1979 Soviet invasion.

Re: Governor urges federal govt to renew Durand Line agreement

The whole world is post colonial British including Afghanistan. Brave Kabulies Kommies are most welcome to cross the durand line and claim the area. Oh well they are pussy cats waiting for Bharatis and Ruskies before they would dare to leave Kabul. haha! Brave Kabuli Kommies, hiding behind veils and cursing like bazari women.

Re: Governor urges federal govt to renew Durand Line agreement

This is the kind of treatment and attitude that lost you BD and gonna lose you NWPF and Balooch. Keep it up

Re: Governor urges federal govt to renew Durand Line agreement

^^ jooti jooti better take a bath. Stench is overbearing!

Re: Governor urges federal govt to renew Durand Line agreement

I’ve always known the truth but it’s easier to just go with what we’ve been indoctrinated with since childhood (e.g. paki nationalism) and defend it even when it’s not right to do so..

I think Pashtoons should be the first to blamed though because they are doing nothing to seperatre from Pakistan for their betterment…

…Punjabis will keep kicking them about like a football and their future generations will be in the same poverty as they’re in today, if Pukhtoons don’t buckle up and get their heads sorted 50 years from now beautiful Pukhtoon children will still be picking rags and begging on the streets of Lahore, and leaving their ‘country’ and family to go to Karachi to labour with their sweat and blood under some Mohajir family whilst Punjabi and Mohajir kids their age would be driving around on the streets in Mercs and going clubbing (as is already the case) or in America or Britian studying in private schools…

Re: Governor urges federal govt to renew Durand Line agreement

We should invade Afghanistan and push the Durrand line another 20 or 30 miles into Afganistan.. This time make it stick, so all the Afghans can shut the fek up about our border.. The can kiss my arse if they dont like it... Parasite koms LIKE THE Afghans shouldnt be allowed to exis indeendantly, except for the non Pasthun Afghan variety, they are descent folks..:)

Re: Governor urges federal govt to renew Durand Line agreement

Yeah, nothing puts a smile on my face then to see a Pathan robbed of his culture!.
Did you pick up on the sarcasm there Baba jee?

Re: Governor urges federal govt to renew Durand Line agreement

There’s the Baba we know and love!

Re: Governor urges federal govt to renew Durand Line agreement

Get a grip .. Im tired of the arse holes bringing up the Durrand line as ficticious… Its a reality and a permanant one at that… Lets see them try to change it…
And for your information, the minister in question actually asked for the Durrand line to be disscussed and negotiated because it is still rather vague in its interpretation… This is no way implies that he doesnt believe in there being an actual border!
Problem with you is, you expect us to sit back an enjoy all the abuse hurled by these butt hole afghans and you applaud them and encourage them, but ass soon as we actually fight back and defend the integrity of our country we are the enemy… They who are constantly abusing us are the greatest com in the world! Those filthy parasites… Wake the fek up Baba jee!

Re: Governor urges federal govt to renew Durand Line agreement

The only hero Punjabis produced in history is Rajnit Singh. The second one was Nawaz Sharif who, unlike valient Bhutto, a Sindhi Hero, wept and begged to be sent in exile to Saudi Arabia than to be put to the rigors of prison.
Baby the only thing you have known in history is subservience not expansion or territorial gains.

Re: Governor urges federal govt to renew Durand Line agreement

You are right friend. The only thing these Punjabis have done in history is to boost and to miscaluculate. Wars of 1948, 1965, 1971, 1998, and the proxy wars in Afghanistan and Kashmir are the proof of this.
