Some Pashtun tribes in Afghanistan and Pakistan still want to dissolve the Durand Line, however the issue has lost its previous support due to Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and subsequent chaos and the tenuous rebuilding that is taking place in post-Taliban Afghanistan.

In hindsight, the Durand Line has saved the Pakistani Pakhtuns from the ravages of warfare that affected Afghanistan after the 1979 Soviet invasion.

The whole world is post colonial British including Afghanistan. Brave Kabulies Kommies are most welcome to cross the durand line and claim the area.

Looks like Islamabad is really getting the heat on this issue. Now they are trying to buy time, they are saying treaty was signed in 1921 not in 1893.

Durand Line not an issue: FO

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan said on Thursday that there was no issue with Afghanistan over the Durand Line.

“The existing internationally recognised border between Pakistan and Afghanistan was established in 1921,” said Foreign Office spokesman Muhammad Naeem Khan. “This border is not subject to any controversy.”

NWFP Governor Khalil ur Rehman on Wednesday had called for a renewal of the Durand Line agreement, which he said had expired. “The official time of the Durand Line has expired, and I asked President Pervez Musharraf to take steps for its renewal,” Khalil ur Rehman had told media representatives at the Governor House on Tuesday.
