Re: Governor Punjab Salman Taseer murdered in Islamabad
sad to hear but as a nation we never learn any lessons from such incidents.
first and foremost i always think the state should have supreme authority and should have things in its control. but in our country state is only involved in corrupt practices.
It is a law given in constitution. but who can change this constitution? not me...not this Qadri..or even Salman Taseer..they should leave this to ppl who are experts in their fields and once law is enforced then its state's responsibility to see if some one has a problem with this law..and it is the state and its legal experts who should shed light on such issues..
on the contrary Mr.Salman taseer stands up one day to say that this law is not good..is he an expert? the state should have taken action at that point to diffuse tensions...but it did nothing..and then came this mumtaz qadri who took law into his own hands JUST because state is helpless in taking action by itself.
Change the law or Keep the law ..should not be the discussion but it should be that state should keep its supreme authority so that nobody takes law in his own hands...and that can only happen once justice prevails.

I Am Sure This Guy Is A Mad and Idiot. He Had Requested His Colleagues Not To Open Fire At Him And Now He Said They Knew Abt The Plot Endangering Their Future.
Re: Governor Punjab Salman Taseer murdered in Islamabad
no kidding. i was wondering how come one man managed to shoot at a high profile target 27 times and was not killed back by the security.
What if he was not a security guard, if he was a terrorist then i wonder if he could have walked away without any problem.
Re: Governor Punjab Salman Taseer murdered in Islamabad
^^^ They should all be changed with conspiracy to murder & dereliction of duty. The killer should face swift/visible justice.
Well it would be interesting to see the punishment meted to the killer, i dont think it would be easy for the courts to convict him as the people supporting the blasphemy law would come to his support...

The rule of law should be upheld and we should not give into these threats otherwise anarchy will follow.

Re: Governor Punjab Salman Taseer murdered in Islamabad
What a shame. No wonder they did not reacted swiftly.
I was watching some discussion on TV last night and some expert was telling that if we assume that he only fired 27 bullets which were found in Salman’s body (although he might have fired more), it will take somewhere b/w 40 seconds to 1 minutes to fire 27 bullets from the gun model he had so during these 40sec to a min, no other personal tried to kill him or take any action.
Re: Governor Punjab Salman Taseer murdered in Islamabad
may be they all hated him.
may be you are right.
Then it is even bigger concern for Pakistan. one man's action can be considered lunatic and taken as exception, but if a whole group is involved then who knows how deep it goes.
whatever happened to the sense of duty.

well he should have been dead within few seconds in few bullets. so basically the shooter shot rest of the bullets on his dead body without any interruption.
Re: Governor Punjab Salman Taseer murdered in Islamabad
I think now you are losing the argument here. There is a huge difference between a dictator and an army general. Kayani is one. Kakar was also one and he had golden opportunity to take over but he did not. When you badmouth 4 names (mush, zia, yahya, ayub) please remember that in the 63 years history of Pakistan, there were total of 14 chiefs, which means that there were 10 who did not take over.
Every single Army Chief has interfered in Pakistan's government , and it's democracy. If they did not take over fully, they were still fully in charge of the country.
Remember Kiyani has unprofessionally extended his term by another three years.
In every martial law, everyone from the Generals to the Hawaldar checking electricity demands bribes and is above the law.

He fired one round of bullets and then reloaded his gun and fired again, he had a lot of time on his hand. According to his statement now he had told his compatriots not to kill him and arrest him alive. There are a lot of questions that are unanswered; Punjab government has a lot of explaining to do. The same person was considered a security risk previously, how was he again inducted and posted in a highly sensitive position?

This is not just some nameless/faceless people on facebook supporting this terrorist pig, even the mainstream media, and educated people in society are supporting him, and justifying his actions. After seeing this, I think Pakistan as a nation has no hope. My suggestion for those who have means get out while you can b/c in few years Pakistan would be where Somalia is today & we can all thank Mullahs for it.

ISLAMABAD: Hundreds of Facebook users welcomed the killing of liberal Pakistani politician Salman Taseer as a strike against reformers of the country’s tight blasphemy laws.
The Punjab governor was shot on Tuesday by one of his guards, 26-year-old Mumtaz Qadri, who confessed to the murder because of Taseer’s vocal opposition to the law that was recently used to sentence a Christian woman to death.
Analysts say the assassination underscores how deeply religious extremism has penetrated Pakistan’s conservative society, with even the Internet-literate elite resorting to Facebook to rally support for the killer.
Nearly 2,000 Facebook users joined one group on the social networking site praising Qadri, and dozens of “fans” joined other pages set up in Qadri’s honour in the hours after the shooting.
All the pages had been removed by Wednesday. Facebook was not immediately reachable for comment.
But other private account holders used their Facebook status updates to make comments such as: “We salute you Mumtaz Qadri,” “thank God he (Taseer) is not alive (any) more” and praise for the attacker as “a soldier of Islam”. In a sign of mainstream media opposition, Pakistan’s leading Urdu-language newspaper, Jang, ran a front-page story declaring: “There should be no funeral for Salman Taseer and no condemnation for his death.”
“A supporter of a blasphemer is also a blasphemer,” said a sub-heading, reporting that 500 religious scholars and clerics had paid tribute to Qadri.
But voices also came out to denounce the gunman, and Facebook page named “I Hate Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri” had 70 “fans” with no comments or discussions.
Those Facebook users who spoke out in support of the politician expressed sadness over the growing Islamisation of the country.
“Sad over Death of Tolerance in Pakistan. Governor Punjab killed by his ‘lunatic guard,’” said one man on his status.
“Pretext: Late Governor Salman Taseer was bold enough to stand-up against Blasphemy law… extensively used/abused against religious minorities,” he added.
“It is sad. I shiver thinking where we are heading and in which society my kids will live their lives,” said another.
Police investigations are focusing on whether the bearded police commando acted alone or as part of a wider conspiracy.
A lawyer from Islamabad’s high court, Farooq Sulehria, told AFP that the assassin would find no shortage of support.
“We will provide all legal support to Mumtaz Hussain Qadri, we will fight for him in the court,” said Sulehria.
Re: Governor Punjab Salman Taseer murdered in Islamabad
I agree with you. His security was responsibility of Punjab govt, & we know he did not have very good relationship with some people there especially the law minister who is well known terorist sympathizer.

Come PML-N in 2013, and they’ll complete General Zia’s vision of turning Pakistan into Saudi Arabia (or Afghanistan, closer to home). This is really shocking.
