Problem with us (that includes both of you) is that we all are short sighted people. We generalize things based on recent events and not on history. Yes Army has some corrupt people, just like cricket team has some corrupt players, just like any of your favorite and most saaf suthra institution (in the whole world) would have some corrupt people.
But when we generalize stuff, we become ungrateful to all those who got killed in 1948 war and in 1965 war and even all those who got killed in 1971 war. Corrupt or no corrupt, its the same army who saved our butt each time when war happened.
'butt saving' is their job, not to rule the country, not to decide what should happen "in" the country. It was the army in 1999 who took the country to brink of war too, it was army in 1971 who killed its own citizenry in Eastern wing, again the list is long mere bhai. We should be able to call a spade a spade whether its army, judiciary, journalist or the political party we associate with.

Dude unlike what is taught in pakistan studies the '65 war was brainchild of foolish FM ZAB and and the ayub khan..army saved our butt after they had put it at risk in the first place! As far as '71 is concerned..no need to repeat!
People in general love to biatch abt the politicians and their mis-deeds but fact remains that since the death of ZAB all the politicians were "allowed" by the PA/establishment to stay within the bounds..or else! The democracy was never independent..its string being pulled by the puppepts masters..PA/establishment!

Dude, right now there are about 550,000 people actively serving in pak foj, not even 10 % are above the rank of Major. When you insult the army, you insult those 400,000 plus families who are going through thick and thin of poverty to serve this nation.
and btw, if you really not sure what value our army adds to the peace, please go through the list of UN Peacekeeping missions and the contribution of our army in it.

I am not arguing the reasons of those wars. All I am saying that we are here having this debate cause army protected our parents and their families and they did not get killed during those wars so we could be born and 32 years later argue about how corrupt our army is.

Pak Army do the same job as every other Army in the world, but they seem to think this allows them to be above the law, kill and loot their own people.
If you look at the monster organisations rampaging across Pakistan, from Taliban to MQM, they were all set up by Pak Army, and now have grown out of their control.

Fortunately or unfortunately, the value or respect of any institution is by its management, top controlling people etc... I already said I do feel for the people who are only the 'worker bees' of the army. When army takes over charge of the country, again the same 'worker bees' are on the roads who are throwing 'civilian govt' out of their offices.

I am sorry to derail the thread but Pakistani army never kidnapped girls from outside Kinniard College to rape them in Governor house, Pakistan Army never built palaces for themselves in Paris and London. Pakistan Army never dealt with super powers to kill her own citizens.
Its the Pakistan Army who is keeping our ass saved from terrorists in west. It was Pakistan army who single handedly rescued Pakistan from flood situation where her jawaan worked day and night to build dams and rescued people from flood sights to dry land.
If it was not for our army, Pakistan would be long gone, either part of India by now or Afghanistan or some lawless no man's land.

TLK, will u agree that the "pakistan the citadel of Islam" narrative was mostly pushed by the PA(not going in to the motive for it as its a long debate). What we r seeing now with terrorism and acts like the murder of the Governor under the pretext of saving the "Islam and name of our Prophet(PBUH) is by product of zia-ullu-haq and rest of the fundoos in PA?
