Gosht Smell!!

yeah how do you get rid of it when the gosht is smelly. I mean beef, mutton or chicken. Ever since we moved here to Dubai my husband refuses to eat any kind of meat because he says the gosht here is smelly.. :frowning:

At first i thought he was just doing Bahanay to avoid my food  But once i was cooking chicken karahi, it was sooooooooooooooooooo smelly that i had to throw it away :yukh:

I dont buy Frozen meat. But still fresh main itni budboo kia karoon.. .daalain sabziyan kha kha ke thak gaey hain.. And there are some sabzis which taste yummy only with gosht.:crying:

Re: Gosht Smell!!

aray logo visit hi kartay ja rahay ho.. kuch ideas pesh karain pls :(

Re: Gosht Smell!!

Well maybe you should wash it nicely, use lemon, lot of tomatoes or tomato puree/paste, yougurt while cooking. Cook in small quantity so you don't have lot of left over. Maybe try someother meat shop. Maybe the place you buy from doesn't have good hygenic standards so try some other place or maybe supermarket. I know in muscat we could get meat in the supermarket.

Re: Gosht Smell!!

I do that, unless i wash it well tasalli nahin hoti. And i have tried buying from different supermarkets, the smell is there sometimes ziyada sometimes kam.

Re: Gosht Smell!!

A lady I know soaks meat in salted water to get rid of the smell

Re: Gosht Smell!!

i live in the middle east too… and i never ever buy meat from a supermarket unless its frozen chicken breasts needed for sandwiches etc…

i usually go to a butcher’s shop to get my meat.. much better quality and variety .. also, it depends on where the goat meat is from?? (pakiland, austrailia, middle east etc ) also where the goat was raised (mountains, valleys etc) ..

if ure meat is stinking, its not fresh, not matter what they are saying…

honestly speaking… it can take yrs until u find the perfect butcher that sells excellent meat… and the day that happens, u’ll die a happy woman :halo:

Re: Gosht Smell!!

Add some ground coriander. It gets rid of that scent and adds some nice flavor. Do you already use it in your cooking?

Re: Gosht Smell!!

khawateen's right.

Re: Gosht Smell!!

hmmm khawateen, thanks for the info, i get the meat from supermarket carrefour, spinneys... which are mashoor for their stuff.. khair, will search for a butcher shop here... yesterday i bought Pakistani mutton. it looks better. Lets see...

Sahar - yes i do put corriender in my cooking. :)

Re: Gosht Smell!!

Sadaf: Make sure you are using lots of lassan and adrak (ginger and garlic) also add a little bit of ajwain. It surely gets rid of the smell. Also, are you sure they are not selling lamb to you in the name of goat?????

When i lived in Minnesota, the arabian shop we use to buy our meats from use to be very bad and smelly until i discovered they were selling us lamb in the name of goat.

Sometimes, marinating the meat before cooking also helps in getting out the smell.

I have also heard of using kasuri methi in your meats to get rid of smell.

Good Luck!

Re: Gosht Smell!!

Forget spinney and carefour, look for a decent pakistani butcher.

Give me a day, i’ll find one for you.

Re: Gosht Smell!!

put it in a pressure cooker with lehsan and adrak, and the smell will be gone and the ghost will be tender!

Re: Gosht Smell!!

Does it taste fine or is it just the smell putting you off eating it?

Re: Gosht Smell!!

MAHRU - I make sure that i am buying mutton not lamb, i ask the guy atleast five times to give me mutton not lamb :)

SHARAABI - That would be so nice of u. :)

AHMADJEE- yeh bhi try kar laiti hoon, aaj to i am making kaala chana chawal... kal dekhoon gi.

SHAHREEN - well, my husband is the one who cant even taste it. I can ignore the smell and eat gosht.. But sometimes like i said when i was making karahi it was so smelly and it didnt taste good as well. and i feel bad throwing RIZK like that :(

Re: Gosht Smell!!

sadaf.. .. honestly.. find ureself a paki butcher... and if u cant .. find a butcher that atleast sells paki meat... makes a world of a difference... meat from the supermarket always always stinks... just been my experience.. no matter how awesome the supermarket is...

:)

Re: Gosht Smell!!
