I believe Code_Red is talking about freedom to express and freedom to follow culture within the constraints of Islamic requirements.

I believe he is making the argument that chaddar and ghungat can qualify as hijab if worn properly and the attitude of the one wearing it is correct and proper as well. If this is what he is saying then I agree.

There is no reason to create a monoculture in Islam this is actually a bid’a … Arabic culture was not enforced when Islam spread rather local customs were modified and Arabic language was encouraged.

and this is what distinguished moslem conquests from other conquests , islam never required ( atleast in theory) for the population to totally giveup their customs and practices and adopt a alien culture.However certain moslem rulers were guilty of that and are remembered as tyrants even in moslem history

the recent rise in “hijab” among desi versus more indigneous means of body/head covering is probably a fad, which has risen because of the “tableeghs” being carried out to turn in pakistani esp for the benefit of upper and upper middle class women.
