And like many share holders they will get something in the mail saying, you can vote for such and such ... but the fact is all that matter is that one dude/family that owns the 51% of the country.

But already today, many countries are not ruled in the interest of bettering society at large.

Would Burma be better off under it's current government, or under a corporation's rule where government is accountable to shareholders?
How about North Korea? Zimbabwe?

Obviously, a corporate government would operate under a corporate charter that would specify limits (as was done in the past), and so would effectively have a constitution.

The concept is that more profit can be generated by enabling the population to be more prosperous (income being generated by taxation) and happy (happy people being more productive).

The corporate charter and laws could be used to limit shareholders. For example, until recently, German law meant that no shareholder in Volkwagen could provide more than 20% of the votes. So even if you owned 99% of the company, the remaining 1% of owners wold get 80% of the votes.

For example, it is in the interest of a corporations to have cheap labor. If Gap would have it their way, they could care less if Desi children are sold into slavery to make their new hot fashion. All they care is the bottom line, which is money.

But if the corporation abuses its population, a national strike would bring it to its knees (since it has no alternative revenue streams).

Prolongued labour disputes would lower stock price, leading to turnover amongst shareholders and new government being appointed by them to restore shareholder value.

Remember, the biggest losers from corporations acting against the best interest of the popualtion are the shareholders who run it. Activists in other countries will lobby against unethical shareholders; shareholders could be subject to sanctions for the actions of the governmen they appoint, etc.

Not really. Look what happened to the East India Company. They used their security forces to very successfully put down the people in the aftermath of 1857; but the British Government then decided that the Company's activities led to instability that threatened national security and nationalised it.

Obviously, any corporation has to be incorporated somewhere and it will always be subject to the laws of that country.

they moved most of the youtube videos to google videos. and many were taken away cuz of copy right violations which actually increased the ratio of oriental videos than any other language. so this way youtube actually lost a big chunk of their market.

p.s. i will try to locate that news.
