Goodbye Rashid?/ Rashid Quits (Merged)

^^ To add to above statement, if Aamir sohail is so hell bent on trying new faces, then why they stuck to same openning combinatins in four out of five BD matches?? Why not give a chance to Butt who was there?? Coz they STUCK to thier BEST BET!! And thats what Rashid said, we will stick to our best bet!!

Yes the selction policy was carried out half-heartedly, but it was the right idea. I definitely wanted to see more of Salman Butt so i could make a proper assessment and I would like to have seen Abdur Rauf as well. The BD series was a perfect opportunity and the same faith that was shown (wrongly) in Zia should have been shown to Butt and Adil. I know for a fact that Razzaq was only retained intitially post-WC at Rashid's insistence so it's not like he doesn't get to have a say. But this was definitely a series where talent-spotting was required so rashid should have stayed quiet IMO.

Rashid quit?

Rediff reports that..have they jumped the gun?

I see now BBC has started reporting the same...

Yes, Rashid Latif has resigned.

Latif resigns captaincy

Rashid Latif has resigned as captain of the Pakistan team.

The 34-year-old had only just finished a five-game ban for cheating.

Latif was banned by International Cricket Council (ICC) match referee Mike Procter after Bangladesh lodged a complaint about a disputed catch during the third day of the third Test.

He said: **“Yes, I have resigned. But I cannot say anything more.” **

Latif decided to step down a day after being warned by the Pakistan Cricket Board to act more responsibly if he wanted retain the position.

Leadership of the team was handed to Inzamam-ul-Haq for the one-day series.

Pakistan have not confirmed whether the veteran batsman will be kept on for South Africa’s imminent visit.

Latif had been at odds with the PCB since August.

The board let him off with a reprimand after he wrote a letter to the ICC, which he later released to the public, warning of the menaces of match-fixing.

**And it was reported in local media that Latif and chief selector Aamir Sohail had disagreements during the Test series against Bangladesh. **

He captained Pakistan for the 1997-98 tours to South Africa and Zimbabwe before retiring, saying he was suffering from burn-out amid reports he had made match-fixing allegations against team-mates.

He was recalled after a three-year exile in 2001 and was reappointed captain in place of Waqar Younis after Pakistan failed to qualify for the super six stage of this year’s World Cup.

^^ Extremely sad day for Pakistan cricket :(. Tauqir achieved his goal by lambasting Latif in public. No where in the world a cricket cheif criticizes its captain, and disagreements over certain slections is common in Australia, india newzealand, westindies..

Now i think he will retire as well, barring he is selected which is an unlikely scenario! cpz surely Aamir Sohail is not gonna select his once-best-friend !!

All well wishersof Moin Khan, you can get happy now :) he is most likely to get a recall!

As far as I know the captain has no input in tean selection in Australia, it's an entirely seperate body and that has worked very well for them. I admire Rashid for his integrity and supported him on the 'cheat' charges which were overblown IMO. But his policy on picking a full strength side against Bangladesh instead of trying to solve our batting crisis was short term and useless. he should stick to his job and get on with it.

why Moin Khan? why not persist with Inzamam Ul Haq? He seemed to be doing okay

The way PCB has handled this is disgraceful. If they wanted to get rid of Rashid they should have sacked him as a captain straight after he was banned. I think Rashid wisely jumped before he was pushed. Rashid also should have acted more responsibly by not making all these public statements and airing his views in private.

I would still like him to continue as the wicketkeeper. Failing that I would like Moin Khan to return in his place.

Question is who will be the captain now, Inzi or Moin or someone else?

I think Saby meant as a wicketkeeper.

i know there is no input from captain in team selection But they give thier views on selections and sometimes can vie for certain players they seemed suitable. Also they give press statements about certain players and disagreements. For example Ponting who worked hard for Symonds selection in WC squad publicly disagreed with selectors on the selection of Shane Watson in the final squad before Watson got injured. and we all know how Ganguly was so pissed at selectors for dropping Nehra, Zaheer khan and Srinath after 2001 SA tour, and he issued several statements regarding that. I can cite examples from Lara, Hooper and Nasser Hussain etc..

By saying all this, i dont mean to say that every captain should criticize selectors publicly, All i mean to say that nowhere a Cricket Cheif issues public statements against the captain!

Really sad news. IMO Tauqir Zia should have left after the failed experiment with his son, rather than Rashid.

Moin Khan would return as a wicketkeeper, not as captain

yep, i did!

i would like to see Inzimam leading for a while before Younis Khan or Youhana takes over.

ehsan, I don't think it was a single incident which has led to the removal of Rashid. He has been breaking confidentiality agreements, making stands on team selection and of course there was the ban issue. Considering he was initially given the job as an older hand to guide the new look Pakistan, I think it's him that has not been consistent in this case.

As for who will replace him, my money would be on Moin as Kamal looks an inferior w/keeper. Or if Rashid wants to carry on playing he can do so as a player only.

I second that, NOT as Captain for Godsake :smack:

if they make Moin khan captain, that would be one of the most stupid mistakes any board can make. He can be recalled as captain PROVIDED Rashid retires

Fair enough. My only issue with Latif is that he seemed to be back-tracking on looking to the future which I think is very important. There are still some batting weaknesses that need to be addressed and he was more concerned about thumping a weak team which was a wrong attitude.

Very sad news for Pakistan cricket. Now i think Rashid will be sidelined just like other player after WC.

Hey lads let's wait and see whether he will be retained as a wicketkeeper or not.

Nope. I don't want Rashid Latif as a wicket-keeper. I am sicked and tired of PCB using players as condoms! To hell with PCB and their policies. Tauqir Zia should have been careful using the word 'responsible' while accusing Rashid Latif. Like Mr. Zia has set an example of responsibility.

Rashid Latif made a decision, which is right from his point of view. It's better to resigned/retired than to be sacked.

Yes Thats right and i agree with the 'bui8lding' thing but he knew what he was doing by persisting with some top order players, There were no bowlers tried other than Junaid Zia.

My question to Aamir Sohail is, if he had disagreements with Rashid on this 'future thing', then why wasnt that thing implemented?? Aamir is as much as answerable as Rashid is, but oh well, Junaid issue will make sure Aamir survives for a longer period than he should :)

well thats a sad occassion but i still find that seriuosly pissed off comment hilariuos :hehe:
