I would like to share my cooking experience with you all!!!!!
When I got married, I had little knowledge on how to cook desi foods. Most of my cooking part was about BOILING EGGS, Making chai, roti, rice, and the rest was like pastas, chinese, mexican, - EVERYTHING but desi foods... and My hubby preferred desi foods!!!!!!
I think desi foods are the MOST time consuming, from preparation, to masala making and serving and all.
So to learn, I got desi cook books - and boy those were the most frustrating experience I EVER went through. It would tell to use in KILOS, POUNDS, MG, and all the metric systems in the world.
I did not learn from ANY of the desi cook books.
I was working full time too. I would call up mom and ask her - okay mom this is what I want to make today - and what ingredients do I use and how much? So I learned somewhat from this - but it was still not good enough because sometimes the peppers would be too much or something else too little. However, I realized that each time I made it, I learned what was less and more, so next time I would cut it out... it took few years to master, because it all depends on YOUR HANDS-ON experience only.
Sometimes I got frustrated and shouted out to hubby dear - that I want to BAN desi foods in this home - although I love it myself - hehe.
I admire his patients. He said it's okay - you practice your cooking skills on me! and sometimes he too made the Tandoori Chicken or Creamy Chicken - to help me out.
Today I don't need his help! I have mastered it all!
I must thank my hubby for being a part of the "experiment". LOL
So much to blame on "Desi Food". Its hard...its this ...its that.... although most of your frustration is related to you not learning it when you were single and within and arm reach of your mother just like you did with chineese, maxican and other food :)
I think cooking is fun if you enjoy it else i have seen people who find it hard to fry egg too. :)
