Why is it impossible to start a thread and look for some relevant answers? Why do people assume I am here worrying about my bari/jahez and going to put a gun to my mil's head to give me more gold or that I am giving importance to materialistic things more than the marriage?
:p
You asked, "How many gold sets are you suppose to get for jahez and baree?"
What are the relevant answers to such a question? 18 sets from Grooms side and 23 from Brides? :)
No set pattern Shay, u're MIL may have a lot of "armaan's" and might want to give u whatever she wants, same thing with u're parents. My mother's been collecting for ages, and i've always made it clear I want small wearable things instead of heavy sets that are hardly worn.
How's your mother doing? Is she feeling better now?
Yeah I guess there is no set of pattern, My MIL told me she is giving me what she gave her other DILs or will give in future (she has got 5 of em :)). So all of us got the same amount and there is no such talks as she got more or less.
Anyway do u think it appropiate to change the gold u got from inlaws as u dont really like the design ? I am for it as then I can get something different to my liking and wont have to pay more zakat on something that is just sitting there.

Yeah, sure. I'd say go for it! Maybe keep your wedding set from them, but I wouldn't have a problem swapping the other gold out for something more to my tastes! I would wait about a year though and perhaps wear the set once or twice in the duration, esp around the in-laws!

Thanks, thats very tacky, you see I see my inlaws every second year as we live abroad. This year I am flying back and will be taking the gold I got from them and changing it, maybe to make it easier I might take my MIL with me, so that she will feel the part of the process, the excuse I got for the choorian as they dont fit me and I dont want red hands everytime I try em on (will get kara's or choorian that can be opened instead) but for the set, I will tell her I want a set with stones thats why I am changing it.

I wore a medium sized set on my wedding and it's something i can wear to another party if i wanted. another smart thing that women do is wear two small sets on the wedding if they really want to have that big look like wearing a choker and necklace.
I got one gold set and four gold bangles in baree and two light set, one earings and two karay from in-laws as a gift i.e gift from BIL, SIL and MIL and three rings as a gift from their relatives.
I got seven set, six bangels, two heavy karays and one bracelets from my parents, also couple of rings and earings. I also got two sets, rings and earings as a gift from relatives.
Hazrat Fatima asked Huzoor Pak (PBUH) for a necklace when she was to be married - He replied why should I want to wed you with a ring of fire round your neck.........just food for thought for you nazuk larkian
