Wearing anything expensive like gold, or a watch is not
allowed. Wearing Stones(except a few i think) is not allowed.
Wearing knots or Taweez is not allowed.
Wearing Ring is allowed.
Gold and Pure Silk are Haram for Men
Beautification and elegance are not merely permitted but are required by Islam, and in general it repudiates any attempts to prohibit them. Say: Who has forbidden the adornment of Allah which He has brought forth for His servants, and the good things of His providing? (7:32)
Islam has, however, prohibited two kinds of adornment for men, while permitting them to women. These are, first, gold ornaments and, second, clothing made of pure silk. 'All reported that the Prophet (peace be on him) took some silk in his right hand and some gold in his left, declaring, "These two are haram for the males among my followers." (Reported by Ahmad, Abu Daoud, al-Nisai, Ibn Hayyan, and lbn Majah, who reports the additional phrase, "but halal for the females.") 'Umar reported that he heard the Prophet (peace be on him) say, "Do not wear silk, for those who wear it in this life shall not wear it in the Hereafter." (Reported by al-Bukhari and Muslim. A Similar hadith is reported by them on the authority of Anas.) On another occasion, referring to a silken garment, he said, "This is the dress of a man who has no character.'' (Reported by al-Bukhari and Muslim.)
The Prophet (peace be on him) once saw a gold ring on a man's hand. He immediately took it from him and threw it down saying, 'Does a person pick up a piece of burning coal and hold it in his hand?' After the Prophet (peace be on him) had left the place, someone asked the man, 'Why do you not pick it up and benefit from it?' He replied, 'No, by Allah! I shall not pick it up after the Messenger of Allah (peace be on him) has thrown it away.' (Reported by Muslim.)
The same prohibition which applies to the gold ring likewise applies to what we observe among conspicuous spenders, i.e., the gold pen, gold watch, gold cigarette case and lighter, gold teeth, etc.
The Prophet (peace be on him), however, permitted men to wear silver rings. On the authority of Ibn'Umar, al-Bukhari reported the former saying, "The Messenger of Allah (peace be on him) wore a silver ring. After him, Abu Bakr and then 'Umar and 'Uthman wore it, until it fell off his finger into the well of Arees." (Reported by al-Bukhari in the chapter on "Clothing" (Al-Libas).) As for other metals such as iron, there are no sound texts prohibiting them. On the contrary, in the Sahih of al-Bukhari we find that the Messenger of Allah (peace be on him) advised a man who wanted to marry a woman to, "Present her with a gift, even if it be ring made of iron." On the basis of this hadith al-Bukhari inferred the permissibility of iron rings.
The Prophet (peace be on him) made concessions in the wearing of silken garments for medical reasons, as he gave 'Abd al-Rahman bin 'Auf and al-Zubayr bin al-'Awwam, both of whom suffered from scabies, permission to wear silk. (Reported by al-Bukhari.)
besides that...
It is not permissible to eat or drink from gold and silver utensils. In fact, it is not permissible to for any purpose items that are made of gold or silver. For example, it is not permissible to:
(a) eat and drink from gold or silver utensils,
(b) clean the teeth with a toothpick made of gold or silver,
(c) sprinkle rose water with a gold or silver utensil which has been made for such a purpose,
(d) to keep surmah in a gold or silver utensil which has been made for such a purpose,
(e) to keep betel-leaves in a container made of gold or silver,
(f) apply oil that is kept in a gold or silver utensil,
(g) lie or sleep on a bed whose legs are made of gold or silver,
(h) look in a mirror that is framed in gold or silver.
All these things are haram. If a mirror has been framed in this way solely for decoration, it will be permissible to display such a mirror. However, at no time should one look into such a mirror. In short, it is not permissible to use anything that is made of gold or silver.
its also been proven that men who wear gold have alot of female tendencies . so its your choice i guess :) .
is perfume allowed, since it has alcohol in it?
is lipsticks, eyeshadows and foundations allowed since it is made out of non-halal fish scales?
are leathergoods allowed if made from a nonhalal animal skin?
is food grown by a kufr farmer allowed to be consummed?
just curious
is white gold also forbidden?
Are there any Quranic verses that prohibit gold or silk? If not, there are however these Quranic verses:
[3:94]
Those who fabricate false PROHIBITions after this, and attribute them to GOD, are truly wicked.
[5:87]
O you who believe, do not PROHIBIT good things that are made lawful by GOD, and do not aggress; GOD dislikes the aggressors.
[7:32]
Say, "Who PROHIBITed the nice things GOD has created for His creatures, and the good provisions?" Say, "Such provisions are to be enjoyed in this life by those who believe. Moreover, the good provisions will be exclusively theirs on the Day of Resurrection." We thus explain the revelations for people who know.
How is it possible for Prophet Mohammed to prohibit something that God Himself in His Infinite Grace and Glory did NOT prohibit? The Quran does not prohibit gold or silk for men, Prophet Mohammed was allowed to only preach and teach from the Quran, then why and how the prohibition of gold and silk for men?
Yeah gold and silk are prohibited for Muslim men but permissible for Muslim women.
Allah Ta’ala knows best why.
Wow Bored in Brisbane, you sure have prohibited a lot of things without an iota of Quranic proof. Also, when you say that "it has been proven that men who wear gold have feminine characteristics", can you tell me who proved it and when & where this study was done?
Thanks.
Praise be to Allaah.
Women are permitted to wear gold, in the form of rings and otherwise, because of the general meaning of the aayah (interpretation of the meaning),
“(Like they then for Allaah) a creature who is brought up in adornments (wearing silk and gold ornaments, i.e. women), and who in dispute cannot make herself clear?”
[al-Zukhruf 43:18],
where Allaah mentions that wearing adornments is an attribute of women; this includes gold and other things.
Adding on to the earlier comments made... generally speaking sunnah and ahadith build upon and explain quranic ayats. Combined they form, what we call "sharia".
So does it mean that all the ahadith quoted above are really additional explanations of 43:18 (above) or are there other ayats on this topic which also address this question. From there, we move to ahadith and sunnah to get further clarification on what the ayat actually mean.
So, lets go step by step in the true order of sharia orders.
- Quran
- Ahadith/Sunnah
- Scholarly interpretations
We should neither try to reverse the order, nor jump at any one who is asking for appropriate references.
Jazak Allah.

YUSUFALI: "And behold! I inspired the disciples to have faith in Me and Mine Messenger: they said, 'We have faith, and do thou bear witness that we bow to Allah as Muslims'".
PICKTHAL: And when I inspired the disciples, (saying): Believe in Me and in My messenger, they said: We believe. Bear witness that we have surrendered (unto Thee) "we are muslims".
SHAKIR: And when I revealed to the disciples, saying, Believe in Me and My messenger, they said: We believe and bear witness that we submit (ourselves).
For All those who wanted to hear this topic from the eye of Quran and Hadiath
FROM QURAN :
Islamic law has provided mankind with appropriate instructions and guidelines regarding dress for men and women.
Islam wants to achieve two things through appropriate dress. Firstly, to cover human body properly as it is not right to expose human body indecently. Secondly, for the purpose of protection and adornment ( the Quranic term “Reesh” is both for beautification and to provide body against the severity of climate ).
The Quran, the book of Allah, states in this regard:
“O, children of Adam, we have sent down to you clothing in order to cover the shameful parts of your body and serve as protection and adornment and the best garment is the garment of piety” (7: 26).
There should be a balance between appropriate covering of body and adornment. If this balance is destroyed, this will be a deviation and following the way of devil.
The Quran states in this regard:
“O, children of Adam, let not satan seduce you in the same way as he caused your first parents to be driven out of the heaven and stripped them of their garments in order to expose their shameful parts before each other” (7 27).
FROM HADIATH :
It is reported by ‘Ali -may Allah be pleased with him- that the Prophet -peace be upon him- took some silk in his right hand and some gold in his left hand and then he said,** “These two are haram for the males among my followers.” (Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Hadith no. 1642 and also al-Nasa’I, Hadith no. 5170**
`Umar bin Al-Khattab (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, **"Do not wear silk (clothes). For whoever wears (them) in this life will be deprived of them in the Hereafter.‘’ [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]. **
Abu Musa Al-Ash`ari (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Wearing of silk and gold has been made unlawful for males and lawful for the females of my Ummah.‘’ [At-Tirmidhi].
Hudhaifah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (PBUH) prohibited us from eating or drinking in gold or silver utensils and from wearing silk and brocade, or sitting on (anything made from) them. [Al-Bukhari].
Umm Salamah, the wife of Allah’s Messenger, may Allah be pleased with her, reported:
**Allah’s Messenger said: He who drinks in a silver vessel in fact drinks down in his belly the Fire of Hell.
Hadith number in Sahih Muslim [Arabic only]: 3846 **
** BoReD-iN-BrIsBaNe** May Allay reward you for guiding us all muslims in the right direction. I agree with your post 101%. I didnt even have to dig out these hadiath and Quranic Verses to know that you were right. It is something that you are taught througout the years if you are raised in an islamic atmosphere.
** Saher02** White gold is also prohibitted in the light of Hadiath for men.
epicurean Gold is haram for MEN. Even if he is 80 or 1 years old kid.
** aahmed **
.

Thanks for the reply. What if someone as mulsims knows its haraam but wears it?
Would he be considered muslim? What is the status for him in islam?
If we consider SalmanNY's post (and the earlier posts by rehman1 and Bored in Brisbane) as a comprehensive collection of material on the question of 'gold for men', then a reasonable conclusion will be that:
- Quran actually does not mention this issue, directly or indirectly.
- All the guidance on this question is based upon ahadith and later interpretation.
There are Million of other issues that Qruan has Not address directly. Hence we are obliged to look into Hadiath and Sunnah of our Prophet Mohammad :saw: (may my life be sacrifised for him).
In regards to this specific issue of men wearing gold, Quran as indirectly, yet has straight forwardly addressed this issue by stating.
“O, children of Adam, we have sent down to you clothing in order to cover the shameful parts of your body and serve as protection and adornment and the best garment is the garment of piety” (7: 26).
( the Quranic term “Reesh” is both for beautification and to provide body against the severity of climate ).
Wearing Gold and other things like silk & makeup comes in beautifying. Or if you think wearing gold serves ANY OTHER purpose for men please guide me. Thank you.
Having said above, when one thing is verified from strong resources that Prophet Mohammad :saw: disliked/cursed those people who wear gold, we should NOT look any further. His life is complete in all regards and he was the LIVLIEST PORTRAY OF QURAN. If Quran doesnt mention directly then Mohammads :saw: sayings/doings should be enough for a Muslim.

SalmanNY:
As I said before, the evidence for not wearing silk or gold is from Ahadeeth and Sunnah. I didn't say its wrong and you didn't add anything else in your last post, either.
The quranic ayat you have quoted twice, does not prohibit silk or gold, or infact anything other than to say that human beings wear clothes to cover up and beautify themselves. It doesn't distinguish between men and women or types of garments etc. May be you are reading something in that ayat which you are unable to explain properly, or may be its something which I am unable to get from your posts.
Regardless, if all the evidence is from ahadith, that should suffice for those who deem ahadith alone (in some issues) to constitute sharia. Those who look at Quran for primary ruling and ahadith for supplementary explanation; or only Quran, will, therefore, not be satisfied. If thats the case, lets leave it at that.
Jazak Allah.
