ack, my hubby is going over also and I am NOT happy about it. But you do what you gotta do yeah?
Malaria pills need to be started prior to travel so see your doc asap. But something that works really well is cling-free dryer sheets. For some odd reason, mosquitos cant stand the smell or whatever it is so if you tie one or two of these sheets to a belt loop or around the end of your kameez tie or just tuck it in someplace, the skeeters will leave you alone. My mom told me about this and I have to say I was pretty skeptical...but we're big campers, I tried it and it really does work. skeeters hate dryer sheets!
as for the rest...prayers for you and also for my hubs. Inshallah, things will be fine.

Hey Tweety,
I know exactly how you feel. Most of my life I've traveled with my family to Pak and I've never felt scared. The last time I went to Pak with family was 5 years ago and I remember feeling concerned about safety. But Alhumdolillah it went well.
Do you know that there is a hadith that states that a traveler's dua is always accepted. So pray for your safety. And recite the Ayatul Kursi and three Quls. Get the insect repellent from UK. Keep in mind that fragrances attract mosquitoes. So, if you are prone to being plagued by mosquitoes you might want to go easy on the perfume and opt for a non-scented antiperspirant deodorant.
My family usually packs certain medicines with them prior to leaving for Pakistan. This can include Tylenol/Panadol, something for uset stomach/diarrhea, sore throat/cold medicines, vitamins. It's just an emergency precaution and a helpful one.
And if it makes you feel a bit better.......my dad was only in Pakistan a few days ago and Alhumdolillah it was a safe journey.

TP malaria medication is very important this time of the year, i had got malaria on one of my travel in june of 01, it was a pain in you know what. the medications in pakistan can be good only if you go to the well established pharmacies.
as far as the Taliban, well stay away from police stations, mosques and KFC/Mcdonalds etc and you are fine.
I heard the most dangerous thing one does in South Asia (not just Pakistan) is be driven or drive a car. I try to minimize being on the road, but for the most part homes are fairly safe. 2 of my relatives did suffer from denge fever last year (both teenage boys) so its good to be careful regarding health but the danger is more for tourists who go w/o family or non-Pakistanis who might be targeted, I think for people who are going to visit family and look pakistani and speak Urdu its not all that different than it was a few years ago (I went last year in March was same as it ever was)
