there is always first time for everything! we love long drives.. my husband and i share driving so its not burdensome on one person! take breaks especially if you have kids.. we drove to Montreal when our son was six months and even though it was only 6 hours drive for us..it took us about 8 hours since we pulled over a a lot to take him out of car seat to stretch and all that.. now that he is 18 months old, we entertain him a lot but still take a break every 2-3 hours (for him 7-8 hours is no big deal now :D) its all about practice.. you will have so much fun if you enjoy the journey too. :)

if it's a 10 hr drive, you may have to look into staying 2 nights...look at this way...you leave chicago early morning, say about 7 am..plan on arriving in Niagra about 6pm....you'll want to get to your hotel, settle in and freshen up and then go have dinner. The next morning you will have breakfast and start sightseeing, that will take all day...now what? Get back in your car and drive back another 10 hrs? You will be exhausted!!!! You will need to go back to your hotel to spend the night and then check out in the morning and start the drive back.
