I could understand they were trying Butt and Farhat to see if these 2 can take care of the opening. But to bring in freakin Taufeeq Umar whom they have already tested and tried was a STUPID STUPID decision.
I'd say the actual hanging needs to be done to the selectors.

I would agree that the current bowlers r better than the U-19 bowlers. Ever look at their first class statistics?

I second Asim Kamal’s inclusion for sure. He played really well in Australia…the only chance he got there in the 3rd test match.
His average is much better than the rest and he is like 30 so is more mature and less flashy.

That’s true, sadly Asim Kamal has recently lost all semblance of form. I remember during the home series, we tried to play him but he was totally out of it.
We all know Hasan Raza is a domestic bully, but I think Bazid deserves a recall.
And I wouldn’t get too excited about Mohd Hafeez. The guy was an absolute hopeless player as I last remember him. He has played 30 ODI’s at an average of 18 and a strike rate of 50. He dropped several catches to boot. His only test success has come from Bangladesh. But if he is performing he deserves one last recall, you never know, he might have gone a total transformation like Asif did since his debut.

Farhat and Taufeeq are the real duds of this tour. The rest will bounce back and have a past record to prove it.
Its not the Brazilian beaches I am talking about, but the slums. They'll disappear like they never existed.
I heard, the only reason they keep him in the team, despite his miserable perofrmance is that he is some biga$$ "Shifarishi" and son of a biga$$ politician or something? Is this true.

Definetely not getting excited about the prospect of Hafeez coming back into the side. However, since everyone possible is being tried at the opening position - may be give him another opprtunity. If it works then - all the better else they can keep on trying someone else.

I agree, we shouldn't be too excited about Hafeez. Even on debut Hafeez never showed signs of "brilliance", rather patience. He has played wonderfully in domestic and now performing in A level. He seems to be in Taufeeq's class, unable to perform at international level (esp under pressure). We can only wish that Hafeez has gone under some transformation and plays well.

The thing I can't figure out is why are we seeing the same names going round and round for the past 5 years. Have other players simply stopped entering the domestic scene? Surely there have to be more openers in Pakistan than just Farhat, Butt, Nazir, Taufeeq and Hafeez. Surely there have to be more lower middle order batsmen in Pakistan than just Kamal, Raza, Iqbal etc.

Not at this forum. :D I have seen posts where every one was sure of a series win and some were expecting 4-0 and there was a thread where people thought Panesar is a pappu bowler.
To be frank, with these kinda openers Pak will always struggle in England, Aus and SA. In previous series good quality bowling made up for these short coming. But injury of Shoib and Asif made big difference. For me biggest disappointment was Kaneria. Never thought he would be such a big failure. I was expecting him to do much better,

one person who should not play for Pakistan ever again is Mohd. Sami.I think he should not have played this test match and niazi should ve been given a chance.And guess what Selectors have shahid nazir for the one dayers .He was by far the best bowler in this test match and you drop him wow.I think selectors should be hanged.
