Gobble Gobble!

Re: Gobble Gobble!

I’ve started making mashed potatoes in a crockpot/slow cooker and they turn out amazing! Whole family agreed last year that it’s the best way to go!

I’ll come back and post thr recipe/method

Re: Gobble Gobble!

There are many variations of mashed potatoes and you can always tweak recipes according to your own taste.

This is my go to mashed potatoes recipe for thanksgiving and it hasn’t failed me yet! (It is rich…but hey it is thanksgiving what do you expect :hehe:)

6 potatoes → Peel and cut into chunks that are equal in size, add them into a pot with water. First put the heat on high until the water boils then lower the heat to a simmer until the potatoes are tender. Once they are done, drain them and let them sit for a minute or so.

Heat 1 cup of heavy cream with 1/2 cup of butter on a low temp.

Mash the potatoes (make sure to not to overdo it or else they will become sticky). Add in the cream/butter and seasonings (such as salt and black pepper) and mix them together gently.

You want to keep an eye on the consistency as well…sometimes you might need a little more cream or less depending on your potatoes.

Re: Gobble Gobble!

No way! We just got a slow cooker awhile back and don’t use it much. Do come back and post the recipe…that will definitely save some time on Thanksgiving.

Re: Gobble Gobble!

thanks guys. will let you know how it turns out! what about the mash potato sauce.

Gobble Gobble!

Do you mean gravy? To make gravy, you need 3 components…fat…flour…milk

Dripping from the Turkey is the fat…you strain that off and to it add flour…you “bhoon” it a bit too cook off the raw flour taste..then while whisking you slowly add milk and keep stirring whisking to make it smooth..nothing is worse than lumpy gravy! Season with salt and pepper.

Here are exact steps and ingredients

It’s such a life saver! And it really frees up the stove…best part it keeps itself warm in the crock pot!

Ultimate Slow Cooker Mashed Potatoes

5 lb baking potatoes, peeled, cut into 1-inch chunks
1 1/2 cups chicken broth
1/4 cup butter, cut into chunks
1 cup sour cream (I used light sour cream)
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 to 1 cup milk, warmed

In 4- to 5-quart slow cooker, place potatoes, chicken broth and butter.
Cover; cook on High heat setting 4 hours to 4 hours 30 minutes or until potatoes are tender.
Add remaining ingredients except milk. Mash, crush or smash potatoes using potato masher, or beat with electric mixer on low speed until well blended. Do not overmix. Stir in enough milk for desired creamy consistency.
Cover and keep warm on Low or Warm heat setting until serving time, up to 2 hours. Stir before serving and you may need to mix in additional milk if potatoes have stiffened while on the warm or low setting.

You don’t have to use an electric mixer…a regular potatoes masher will do. And they will be so soft that it practically melts! So much easier to mash then the traditional method. Oh, and throw in some garlic cloves too of you want!

Re: Gobble Gobble!

Dude…those mash potatoes killed my diet…I just gained ten pounds looking at your mac and cheese and mashed potatoes!

:hayaa:

Re: Gobble Gobble!

That’s a lot of thanks giving!
Thank you. I might bug you for some tips on the cranberry relish if my trial run goes crappy.

Re: Gobble Gobble!

Everyone’s menu is making me hungry! We got invited to our khala’s dinner last year. So lets see if it happens again, their menu always has a southern country flare to it. I’ll just have to whip up something myself if we get no invites.

Re: Gobble Gobble!

So no one is able to share/post a fool proof Turkey recipe for Thanksgiving?

Re: Gobble Gobble!

Binte…food network website had a ton!

For the past couple of years we’ve been doing a Cajun Fried Turkey..my mamoo owns a bar BBQ restaraunt so they take care of it for us

Re: Gobble Gobble!

Turkey haram :ast:

Btw, my cousins ate turkey and the younger said that it was very dry, so I guess turkey doesn’t soak up the masala like meat or chicken would?

Re: Gobble Gobble!

You do a fried Turkey? I’ve heard its amazeballs!

Yeah, its dry depending upon how you make it though. Its not cooked the same way as chicken I believe.

Re: Gobble Gobble!

I found Alton John’s recipe. It has 4000 plus reviews. I am thinking of trying it. We are not having anyone over for the dinner. So it will be just the three of us.

I am sure there are different sizes in turkeys. Does anyone know how much does a smallest bird weigh?
