Global Innovation Index 2007- and Pakistan

Just read this at one of the sources I follow, and thought I would share it here. Definitely not surprised to see US at top, am surprised to see south Korea ranked lower than some of the other countries, cant se ethe reason for why kuwait and china are right by each other. and may just take knock some reality into Pakistanis regarding they stand as a nation in this assessment.

some choice countries that are ranked higher than us, countries we dont hear a lot about, and we dont talk a lot about, and media does not go on about them. It appears they are doing stuff that we should be following. The world is bigger the US, israel, India, Iraq, Afghanistan and the usual crap passing as news that pollutes our airwaves and papers.

Re: Global Innovation Index 2007- and Pakistan

Informative. Thanks for sharing.

Malaysia is doing great at number 26. I see them improving more in coming years. wonder what was their ranking position a few years ago.
How sad is this, Pakistan is even behind SriLanka - a country that is stuck with tamil issues/civil war situation.

The 2nd link requires registeration. Is it possible for you to post that article here. Thanks :)

Re: Global Innovation Index 2007- and Pakistan

coolie, I dont have any data on whether Pakistan is on the upswing, downward spiral or stuck in limbo. to be honest I have not looked at the methodology and all to see how they arrive at these numbers but still just by a order of magnitude type of comparison it looks rather disappointing to put it mildly.

I do think that as a nation we spend too much time on non value add crap. our paper, our media and even Pakistan related discussions on this forum are a good proof of that.

Re: Global Innovation Index 2007- and Pakistan

well, coming up with a new name for NWFP kinda issues need to be handled first :hoonh: so lets spend 50 more years and then we’ll start thinking of less important issues.

Re: Global Innovation Index 2007- and Pakistan

Hey dont forget that we also do need a column of religion in the passports. sigh

okay a little more info

the study is based on 8 pillars of innovation

Five input pillars represent aspects that enhance the capacity of a nation to generate ideas and leverage them for innovative products and services.

Three output pillars define the benefits of successful innovation to the citizens and organisations of the country.

INSTITUTIONS AND POLICIES
HUMAN CAPACITY
INFRASTRUCTURE
TECHNOLOGICAL SOPHISTICATION
BUSINESS MARKETS AND CAPITAL
KNOWLEDGE
COMPETITIVENESS
WEALTH

btw if you are interested you can get a free trian membership of the publication. I highly suggest you check it out

Re: Global Innovation Index 2007- and Pakistan

Pakistani universties this year showed an increase in research output... So this may be a good sign.

Re: Global Innovation Index 2007- and Pakistan

Thanks Mr. Fraudia. The study seems to be quite comprehensive.
