Girly room

We might be moving into a new and bigger apartment in few months Insahallah.

So my dream of creating a girly room for my girls comes true

How would you decorate their rooms (age 4 and 3 months at the moment)

I was thinking of something in purple and pink, maybe some barbie elements, my daugther loves her or maybe something classic like furniture in white and I can change decorations like bedding and curtains every few months ? I am confused.

What would make a girl happy and comfortable to live in ?

Re: Girly room

yay for you! and the girls!

honestly, i wouldn’t commit to a design that involves changing curtains and bedding every few months. its better to pick a look that can be maintained easily, and can be upgraded as the girls grow up, no?

also, i think whatever style you choose, make sure there’s some yellow in it. its the perfect colour for kids’ rooms! sunny, bright, cheerful, and it can be sophisticated too.
yellow and shades of pink make a great combo too.

pick a fabric that you love, or a colour scheme, or a favourite book or piece of art, and use that as your starting point. it will help to lend some cohesiveness to the overall look.

Hi you can go for plain pink or purple, and you can buy these nice barbie stickers to put around the room, they shouldn't be permanent and they should peal back off. as girls move on from barbie to high school musical to hanna montanna etc etc

that way u dont have too many stickers, you can have a nice barbie clock, pink love heart cushions sitting on the bed.

u cud have some funky pink shelving for some books/toys to sit on

i am sure it will look good whatever u decide.

Re: Girly room

thanks sgc and mrsshy

hmm some yellow, I like yellow myself, till now I have been using yellow a lot.

and you are right its a nice bright colour that kids love.

nice idea sgc about the starting point, I just bought my daugther a barbie pyjama, love the colour combo, light pink and light grey .. maybe thats the scheme, combined wiht some yellow elements and maybe some stars that glow at night.

love the idea of cushions .. lovely

I also like hello kitty stuff .. thats so yumm ... did I say I am creating a room for my girls, looks like I am fullfilling my own childhood dream hehe.

Re: Girly room

hannah montana is a no no at my home, hubby says its bad influence for the girls but we'll have other pretty schemes when girls grow older :) maybe nature and flowers ect...

Re: Girly room

here are some ideas. I need to redo my girls’ room as well. I would stay away from characters because your girls will love them one and then grow out of them and then you’ll have to do the room all over again.

I love the first one

Re: Girly room

A canopy bed is totally girly and lasts for a couple years

Re: Girly room

Aww man I want a kid sooo bad....but just for decorational purposes :P
But if I had a girl....i would love to have a flower theme as well...cause girls don't grow out of that...and if you put in all the time, money and effort....it should last! So yea i would get like green rugs that would act as the grass...and get bright yellow bedding and curtains...and paint the ceiling like a light sky blue with some clouds...and maybe have some cute little valley mural's on her wall...with hills, mountains, flowers etc...and there and these really cute flower shaped throw pillows you can get for the bed....really bright and would bring tons of color into the room....

Re: Girly room

I'm not a fan of using characters in a room, unless it's something classic like Winnie the Pooh or the Muppets (but not Barbie), or something that is not commercial. Barbie bothers me because of the commercial aspect, and the fact that it gives a very specific idea of beauty (same with Hannah Montana).

I like the idea of fairies or mermaids. Or just design motifs in bright colors.

I was actually thinking impressionist paintings in our nursery.

I would not make it too much of a theme -- your 4yo will change her mind very quickly.

Re: Girly room

I agree with Sahar - fairies are "in" these days.

Re: Girly room

sahar, impressionist paintings! amazing idea!

i agree with the others, using a specific character is a temporary sort of idea so its best to incorporate is using items you can remove once your child outgrows that phase, like pillows or artwork.

pink, grey, and yellow is an AWESOME combination. i also love pale teal in a little girl’s room. its girly without being too conventional.

Re: Girly room

When i was expecting my baby...we decided that we will keep it as a surprise for us...so we didn't know until SHE was born...

So we wanted a neutral theme ..but i didn't want pooh as every body has it..at least most of the people.. I love finding Nemo :D so I painted the whole room in that theme when i was almost 9 months pregnant ..i know a silly thing to do but i just wanted to do it myself :)..i used to keep a pillow underneath my big tummy and then used to paint the corals and every thing :)
we bought furniture from Ikea... the cupboard and a drawer which is sky blue and dark blue..very cute.. i found the curtains in Ikea too..sea theme but the bedding was difficult i couldn't find anything NEMO ..so i had to buy loose material from a store which has fishes on it..and i made the bedding set.i used some green in the room too to go with the sea plats ..just on the window and a closet in the room and the door inside ..out side the door is white and i put some stickers of dory on it..thats it..

luckily my daughter loves Nemo the movie and she simply adores dory..so meri mehnat wasool ho gayi :)

meri beti ka Hello kitty room hai

Re: Girly room

I like traditional white furniture for girls.

Re: Girly room

Girls are always goin thru phases so its better if u do something that can cater to their everchanging whims. Maybe u can do an accent wall and keeps the curtains and wall color something thats a bit neural. If they are into princesses or other character.. google wall decal. Its not permanent.. they are budget friendly and u can change them as they grow. Make sure u have lots and lots of storage. i love some of the pics njgal put up so u can def get some inspiration from that. go to hgtv.com for adorable ideas on the rate my space section.

Re: Girly room

**i decorated my niece's room with butterfly theme in pink, orange and yellow colours. i loved it! you get the unlimted option of colours when creating a butterfly themed room!

i painted a really attractive butterfly wall mural on the main wall and did some cute butterfly stencils around.

did beautiful strips on orange, pink and yellow on another wall. furniture was white. **

Re: Girly room

Ohh it's fun to decorate girls rooms . We just moved into a bigger apartment 2 weeks ago and my daughter chosed red and pink colours for her room so I am also in need of ideas and tips ,will be checking this thread now :D

Re: Girly room

I personally don't like character themes or pinks and blues...I like a neutral color/theme that can be transformed from a little girl's room to a teen's room...I like green a lot. You can put some shelves and decorate with your girls' favorite toys/artwork etc. Stick on stars and other stuff looks really cute and can be removed at any time if your girls get tired of them but remember to pick a paint color that doesn't have to be changed every so often. Have fun! :)
