just wanted to know from all married and engaged girlies…
how do u adress ur mil?
do u call them mum, aunty or what???
i would want to call my mil to be mum or whatever just so its feels more personal than aunty ji but i cant imagine calling anyone mum apart from my mum!!!
I call her Aunty but I call her Ammi when I speak to my fiance. I really cannot fathom calling her Ammi. Only my birth mother should be given that name.
Calling someone amma or ammi doesnt make them your mom, its just a personal choice. I call mine ***** aunty that's only because we havent announced our engagement yet. Once we do that I will call her what my hubby does. Same goes for him.
i started off with aunty, but then my father in law pointed out that its nicer if i called her ami ji & from that day on thats what i called her- it was really hard to begin with because obv u dont see her as ur mum but as the rishta grew it felt right
some mother in laws get offended if you dont call them mum or whatever titel your hubby uses as they think u havent totally accepted her. so we have no choice but to call her mum. its a lil weird at first then u get used to it.

yeah keep that in mind...
btw what you think of her is more important than what you call her :)
I used to call her aunty till we got rukhsatified and even then it took me a good month or two to get used to the idea of calling her ammi. There was no pressure from the inlaws but i found i really did think of her as ammi when i started calling her that. Hubs calls my ammi, ammi too.
I call my MIL Ammi. That's what my husband calls her too. I call my mom Ammi too. But I of course make it obvious which "Ammi" I am talking about. My MIL is a true mom to me and my husband both. I don't mind calling her Ammi. She is awesome!
