I see it a lot if the girl is working/studying in another city, and it doesn't seem to be a big deal. it is less common when they are in the same city, but I do see it happen, but then those girls and parents worry about what rishtas will think of the situation, eventho it makes sense for them.

My cousin in Pak is very, very intelligent, MA. She had an interest in studying medicine and it would have entailed leaving home. Her dad (my chacha) didn't allow it because he feared people would "talk" and assume things about her when it came to rishtas. My taaya, on the other hand, who also lives in the same city....was okay with his daughters studying away from home. I find the contrast b/w the two brothers interesting.

Oh ho Bibi Alima....if you want to willingly become a Sister Wife, more power to you. However, I don't believe that is the rationale behind the Islamic edict that allows a man to have more than one wife. Thanks for your insight though.
This thread is about something totally different. Just because a Muslim female lives alone, without the shelter of a father, brother or husband does not make her a heathen of loose moral character that will never get a proper "rishta". Nor does it make them anymore behaya than you wanting to get involved with a married man. And before you get your feathers ruffled again, I'm just using your own words, haina? Girls living alone is not a common sight as even boys studying or having a job still prefer to live with some room mates....:)

Living on your own can bring about a positive development in one's character as well....such as building confidence, independence, responsibility, etc. Why do you see it as a strictly negative thing?
