Sympathy. I know that my SO has a demanding job and works long hours. He also spends plenty of time with me and listens to me often enough. So at times when he does tell me that's he's too tired or too sleepy to talk.....I know that he's had a long day so I feel sympathy for him. There are days when I'm too tired to talk to him too so I can relate to that "feeling".
