KARACHI: Girl shot 4 times survives honour killing

KARACHI, April 26: Relatives of a 14-year-old girl kidnapped her and shot her four times in an attempted ‘honour killing’, a senior police officer said on Wednesday.

Nur Jehan was shot in the stomach, leg, knee and arm in Gadap and left for dead by her cousins, who accused her of having sex with a young man.

Lying in a government hospital ward protected by armed policemen, she told Reuters how she had been driven to Gadap, to be executed.

She said she crawled out of the ditch onto a road to scream for help from a passer-by.

”They will try to kill me again,” said the waif-like girl.

She also feared for the lives of her parents and siblings, who were also kidnapped by her attackers.

Nur Jehan was declared a “kari”, or black woman, by her cousins who accused her of having sexual relations with a young man in Mirgoldop, a village in Balochistan where her father was a farmer.

Investigating police officer Raees Ahmed Ghani said her cousins killed the man with whom she was accused of having sex.

Fearing for his daughter’s life, Nur Jehan’s father moved the family to Karachi after she was declared a “kari”.

But on April 19, Nur Jehan was kidnapped and shot.

”I fear for my father who didn’t want to kill me when the relatives declared me a kari,” she said.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan says an average of 1,000 women are killed every year in Pakistan in the name of family honour.

Most of these women are killed by their husbands and male relatives after being accused of having sex outside marriage, but commission chairman Iqbal Haider said the custom was generally carried out to settle old enmities, such as property and marital disputes.

Man kills daughter

By Our Correspondent

OKARA, April 26: A man allegedly axed his daughter to death on Wednesday as she refused to withdraw a Hudood case she registered against one of the neighbours. According to police, Fatima of Chak 12/GD had registered a case against Ghulam Mustafa. Her father Aslam asked her to withdraw the case but she refused to do so.

On Wednesday, her father got furious when she refused to withdraw the case and attacked her with an axe, killing her on the spot.

Chuchuk police have registered a case on the report of Fatima’s husband Sarwar.

Re: Girl shot 4 times survives honour killing

:(
^ girl is dead, father would go to jail for killing his daughter and Ghulam Mustafa still enjoying his freedom, must be busy thinking about his new prey in the neighborhood.

Re: Girl shot 4 times survives honour killing

This is terrible. Cruelty of any shape and form cannot be condoned. Those people must be animals.

This is where Pakistan needs to be concentrating on educating people otherwise all their lives (in coming centuries) they will still be classifed as 3rd world nations.

Re: Girl shot 4 times survives honour killing

i thought god will punish the sinners...why do we take it upon ourselves to punish them...
hotlatte dont call them animals ...animals are way better than humans.....animals mostly kill for food, human beings kill for joy, honor and greed. sick!!!!

Re: Girl shot 4 times survives honour killing

umm wat is a hudood?

Re: Girl shot 4 times survives honour killing

this makes me sick.. :disgust:

Re: Girl shot 4 times survives honour killing

Hmm, perhaps you missed it. But honour killings are illegal in Pakistan, they are punished by death according to law, I dont think such a punishment exists in many other countries for it.

There’s an error in the report. It should be the HRCP says that 1000 women and men are killed each year in the name of honour (I think the figure is 40% men are killed in these crimes).

Re: Girl shot 4 times survives honour killing

You are right. The law is in place.
The real question is how many times it gets applied and carried out.

How many men are actually caught? Tried? Executed?
Obviously not enough.

Re: Girl shot 4 times survives honour killing

It's very difficult to get a 100% fullproof justice system in a society and catch every single criminal. Even apprehending 1% of criminals is good in a society.

Re: Girl shot 4 times survives honour killing

You've been here a long time I see Muzna. :D

Re: Girl shot 4 times survives honour killing

Apparently not so in Canadian society.

Re: Girl shot 4 times survives honour killing

Lol, Canadian society is max 0.5%.

Re: Girl shot 4 times survives honour killing

Just registered he did not arrest that men who killed
his own daughter???
I wonder if a boy (son) do such these things would the father
killed his son??? (dont think so huh)
Its disguisting that father kills their daughter in the name of honour.

Re: Girl shot 4 times survives honour killing

You're thinking too hard. You should worry about the condition you have.

The case was registered, now they will follow the procedure and arrest the man if that needs to be done.

U say this ^like its normal what he has done.
And what do you mean wid worry about the condition i have???

Re: Girl shot 4 times survives honour killing

Oh God. I was just commenting on standard criminal procedure. You have to register a case, then investigate before you arrest the individuals.

Re: Girl shot 4 times survives honour killing

dear nilu havent you heard its a man's world...men make laws men break em ...no big deal ...but god forbid if women ever make slightest mistake.

Re: Girl shot 4 times survives honour killing

I wonder why this only happens in Sindh and Punjab...
