Re: Girl Names
So right now, my top three are: Layla, Hira, and Izzah.
Whose daughter is Izzah on here? Is that CB's? My brother said he liked the name and I remember liking it on here too.
Re: Girl Names
i say Layla or Izzah....i think Hira is nice in urdu/arabic but will get ruined in the west
What do you guys think about the name Myra?
Re: Girl Names
^ I like it, What does it mean?
Re: Girl Names
^ i think it means moon.
what about the name... Misha or Mishaal...means beutiful.
Re: Girl Names
Myra means Moon
Re: Girl Names
My cousin's daughter is Mishaal. I like it a lot.
Myra means Moon
I checked the meaning of this name at urdupoint it says ... "Achay kaam karnay wali"
Re: Girl Names
Layla is beautiful, sahar! would you spell it Leila and pronounce it with an “ei” sound like in Leila/Majnoo, or would it be Lay-la as in the eric clapton song?
Izzah, and i’m really sorry, but it kinds sounds like something snoop dizzle would pick for his daughter fo’ shizzle ![]()
Hira is pretty- its like an 80’s vintage name… used to be around a lot, but i don’t know anyone with the name now.
know what i heard recently and really liked? Minahil. its so pretty! its meaning is “jannat ka darwaza”. minahil name meaning in urdu - Muslim Babay Names, Muslim Girl Names, Muslim Boy Names
and i admit, one of my closest friends is named Meher and so i’m partial to that name because she’s a lovely girl and Meher is such a pretty name!
Re: Girl Names
^ I like Meher and Minahil too. Meher is taken, but Minahil is not. But Hubby's last name starts with M and so far we haven't like the sound of the double M's.
I think I'd do Leila. Or maybe Leyla. As close to the Arabic "Night" we can realistically get. Maybe I'll write out the different spellings and ask non-brown people how they would pronounce it, and see what sounds best. I think it's actually kind of a nice contrast with "Sahar". Hubby likes Leyla better than Hira.
Re: Girl Names
^I'm thinking about this more. Do I really want my daughter named after a tragic romance heroine? I would NEVER name my daughter Juliet, but Juliet was also an idiot.
I like Leyla because it sounds pretty and Islamically night is such a sacred time. But I don't want her brought up thinking she's a silly romantic heroine. Altho, I guess we all go through that phase.
Side note: Apparently Eric Clapton's album featuring Layla is actually inspired by Leila and Majnu. Another song actually quotes from the poetry related to their story! <-- according to Wikipedia.
Re: Girl Names
i like the way, u've spelled lyla and esp if we think from the islamic point of view its a lovely name, if im not wrong is it from lyla tul Qadr...
but imagine how it'll be pronounced in pak... the pindoo way laila... I'm sorry don't mean to hurt you or anything but i'd say go for some other name.. Minahil is nice.
Dunno y , but i quite like Suhaina heard it here, i guess there's a member named Suhaina on GS.

i wouldn't worry about that, to be honest. leila/majnu is a very old story and unlike romeo and juliet, i doubt your daughter will run into it in school or really, her casual reading, until she's much older and understands she wasn't named after leila/majnu! and of course, a big reason why she'd think that is if people went around telling her that, which i don't think you guys or your families would.
also, re: Minahil, IMHO, it sounds REALLY pretty with your hubby's last name- very graceful :)
and speaking of M names, what about Mahira, Maheen, or Mahhum?
actually.... hrm, scratch those... they don't sound right with your hubby's last name!
Re: Girl Names
Hey you guys can you help me out too with a name.... Me and hubby like these 3 names:
Arooj (would that be spelt Arooj or Urooj?)
Ayzah
We too like Leyla/Leila
What do you all think?
Re: Girl Names
^ I've only seen it spelled "Urooj." Pretty name.
What is Ayzah?
Leyla is nice of course :D
What do you guys think about the name Myra?
Myla is nice but Ayla is even nicer.
