1. then it’s really not necessary, as it’s digressing from the topic which is one of a 16 year old girl murdered by her father.

It is insulting, as the statement makes a point about sterility (homosexuality), vs. fertility (heterosexuality), and equating females with fertility, thereby making their importance solely based on their reproductive organs. It’s not hard to see. Sexual intimacy between consenting adults has absolutely nothing to do with the status of either sex. If we’d like to continue this conversation, we could do it in pm, as I don’t want to detract anymore from the topic at hand.

I think all Muslims with strict Islamic views must put their children in Islamic schools - that way they are not exposed to normal kids in public schools.

If they are no Islamic schools in the area - they should be kept at home. Especially girls. That way, they are not polluted with western ideas and can be sent back and married in Pakistan.

If they are no Islamic schools in the area - they should be kept at home. Especially girls. That way, they are not polluted with western ideas and can be sent back and married in Pakistan.

It's as much about Islam as it is about culture. Islam is a highly patriarchal religion, resulting in vast misogynistic attitudes by many practitioners.

The problem is, there are cases where fathers beat (and kill) rebellious boys as well; so the patriarchy angle is a bit too opportunistic and over politicized.

Some "parents" don't know how to deal with a rebellious child. The point of contention in this case happened to be Hijab.

No, I doubt he even reasoned at all. Most probably his child acted up, and rather than acting like a parent he acted like a gangster would towards a non compliant subordinate thug.

It's this kind of reasoning, that links religion proper to this death, that (rightly) brings people on the defensive...and so more time is spent talking about how religion is not the cause here (and it isn't), rather than the brutality of the death itself. Some people just shouldn't be allowed to breed. And that's the bottom line.

actually i heard about this yesterday morning...that a father called the cops saying that he killed his daughter...they lived in sauga...and my first thought was oh god, please dont let them be muslim or pakistani....i dunno...its just more sad....
