Gina & others need your help - Applying make up

Hi Gina,
I have a wheat complexion, have blemishes and not an even tone skin. Which way should i apply make up?

  1. I apply primer on the entire face
  2. I apply concealer to the effected areas
  3. Now, apply foundation to the entire face
  4. If its too greasy or giving a shiny touch, i will apply face powder too
  5. next i do my eyes - eyeshadow, liner, mascara, shimmer etc.
  6. on the apples of cheeks, i apply light blusher
  7. at the end of cheeks, i apply bronzer if need be
    8.lastly, i do my lips

is that the correct order? do i need to fix anything else?

Re: Gina & others need your help - Applying make up

i have a similar complexion and i do it just like but i use a lighter colour powder under my eyes before applyling powder to my face for two reasons.

It makes my eyes look better and face brighter and dark eyeshadow can fall under your eyes and make it a bit darker thats why.

oh and i also put foundation on my lips to makesure the colour of my lipstick comes out good.

Re: Gina & others need your help - Applying make up

i think you're doing it fine.

people have different preferences anyway and there's no 'right' or 'wrong' way. for example, the pros say to put concealer after foundation but many people, myself included, prefer it before.

Sometimes if u have a lot of blemishes.. u need heavier coverage and may need to apply concealer over and under u're foundation. ALWAYS "set" it with loose powder.. u don't want to look blotchy!

Stick to one..either blush or a bronzer..using both is over-doing it. Apply blush according to u're face shape.. not everyone can wear it on the 'apples' of their cheeks.

MOST important are the tools..u're concealer brush, lip-brush, loose powder brush etc.

well..1,2,3 r ok..but after applying foundation i do my eye makeup...and yeah i do put some foundation on my eyes as well and blend, blend and blend.after applying eye shadows just dust off the excess from under the eyes...apply liner and mascara...DO apply face powder too..
and yeah lipstick and then blusher...on my cheeks and over the t-zone lil bit...

and yeah after face powder i also put fixing powder to protect my makeup from perspiration and humidity..

Re: Gina & others need your help - Applying make up

always do your eye makeup first..so you dont have to redo/fix your concealer/foundation later if the eye makeup drips/smudges/etc....

hi gina

i need your help......well i am using mac studio fix for long time.....i am a mac lover.....

well before it was just perfect but recently i have notice that when i put on than its too flaky on my forehead............so what should do for this

Re: Gina & others need your help - Applying make up

What type of brushes should be used as concealer brush, lip-brush, loose powder brush etc.? Please suggest a link to a website like MAC to show picture of the appropriate brushes to apply each of these.

Which Concealers/foundations/primer have you all tried? MAC? Loreal? Clinique? Oriflame? How was your experience? which one would suit my skin type as mentioned above?

Gina, whenever I put loose powder alone or even after foundation, my skin looks sooooooo sooooo dry and it looks a bit cakey to me. i dun feel smooth skin or anything. i appl moisturiser body shop VIT E, sometimes Olay classic but they get absorbed so easily that when I put make up all I feel is a dry skin.
i was wonderin u suggest using a lighter shade of foundation for under eye and mouth area, i was wonderin wudnt that b prominent on the face as whole face wud b one color and the mouth and undereye other?

Re: Gina & others need your help - Applying make up

bronzer should only be used by pro cuz they need lot of practice ,,

U're skin could have changed.. due to weather.. U should scrub and moisturize REALLY well.. the exfoliation will remove the dead skin and moisturizing will settle u're skin down. I find MAC foundations pretty dry and I usually mix in a dollop of my face cream. This makes it easier to blend too!

U're dark circles and blemishes are usually dark and that's why u need a concealer a shade or two lighter than u're foundation. Perhaps the foundation u're using has concentrated pigments and u need a moisturizing one. Do remember that u will need a diff water-based foundation for summers.. which is light-weight too.

Bronzer is suitable for everyone.. the cream/mousse/powder ones are easy to apply.. just go over u're temples, under the chin and nose..

thanks G hugs ....

Re: Gina & others need your help - Applying make up

mall: bronze coloured powder (can be more golden or more bronze) used to give a healthy glow. There is a certain way you're supposed to apply it (cheeks, temple, chin). I wouldn't advise applying it all over.
i'm a big fan of bronzer as the warmth suits me a lot better than most blushes (cheeks only). i know Gina said you shouldn't use both above, but I do! I have a light hand when it comes to makeup, so i do a little bit of bronzer to bring some colour to my cheeks first, then blush on top.

Re: Gina & others need your help - Applying make up

hmmm thanks stoppit...i normally refrain frm bronzer cus it luks like brown blusher and i never use brown blusher/bronzer on my face.. i will try it though... which one u recommend for me... goldern or brown.. i m slightly fair

^U're a pro u know what u're doing.. and u're avatar always makes me want to raid my fridge and chomp on something..it's horrible for my diet!

Re: Gina & others need your help - Applying make up

^lol! that's what gum is for! unless you're like me and hate the stuff...

Re: Gina & others need your help - Applying make up

Gina/Stopit
Any suggestions on my second question above?

lol! well you really need to try it out before jumping in. Gina can prob suggest some more brands but I'd try MAC first because their bronzers come in a variety of shades and reasonably priced. you really need to get down there and try out a few.. more than one might suit so it depends on which gives the kind of look you want. the regular shade 'Bronze' is very popular (i'm fair, slightly tan, MAC shade NC30, Beige Ivory etc), that was the best for me.

i'm actually using MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural in Dark as my 'bronzer' below blush as it doesn't have shimmer, so it's even more natural. but can be harder to use.
