Gina & others need your help - Applying make up

Concealer- if it’s liquid, fingers! my undereye concealer is liquid and i gently pat it with fingers (it’s a delicate area). the rest of my face i use one in a pot so you need a brush. I have a nice foundation brush that I use for concealer too.
it’s not by MAC but it looks like a larger version of this one:
195 - Face, Lip and Eye Brushes by MAC Cosmetics

Lip brush is standard - MAC just do 3 - a slim one, a covered one and a retractable one. the most versatile is the first.

Loose powder - you need a big brush. any of these, depends on your preference:
134 - Face, Lip and Eye Brushes by MAC Cosmetics
150 - Face, Lip and Eye Brushes by MAC Cosmetics
182 - Face, Lip and Eye Brushes by MAC Cosmetics

As far as face products, I’ve tried more than I care to remember. I do prefer MAC concealers always as they have so many shades and different types depending on what you want to use them for. As mentioned above, I have two for different uses.

Foundation is tricky you really have to get out there and test them. I yo-yo back and forth with different MAC ones and other brands.
Currently I’m on MAC Full Coverage [unfortunately it’s a PRO product so not widely available]. it seems very thick but if you apply it with a synthetic flat foundation brush and a very light layer, it gives fantastic but light coverage. When you’re going out for a special occasion, it’s really easy to build up the coverage too. unlike the other MAC foundations the colours are much better and not too yellow/orange. I only use it on my cheeks and chin and finish off the whole face with powder, yet it’s seamless.

Anyway, go out for some testing! Try and get some samples if you can.

I swear by concealer by Makeup Forever and foundation by Bobbi Brown. the liquid and the cover-sticks. However, it might not be suitable for u’re skin.

MAC has the best makeup brushes.. and makeup brushes are surely an investment!

There are so many diff types of bronzers..Two Faced Bronzer is ideal for most skin types.

Re: Gina & others need your help - Applying make up

This thread is great, especially for those of us who are complete n00bs to makeup. o_o

What would you recommend to clean all of the makeup off?

Also - something I've been wondering for a while: what IS "liquid makeup"? --> I know it can't be concealer, but is it the same thing as foundation? or a mix of both?

Re: Gina & others need your help - Applying make up

By the way - I've an appointment tomorrow morning with the Clinique people at Sear's, to get a consultation about what'll suit my face best... would anyone here recommend their products? should I avoid them?

thanks gina for your lovely advise.....

i need more help from you...

firstly these days i am getting pimples alot.......first the are red than it get white head and than at last the mark doesnt go......i mean there is still a mark so what should i do for these 2 things

secondly i will be going to karachi next year. i want to do a beautian course which include make up, facial, manicue, pedicue, hair styling etc......i want all in 1 package....

can you suggest some good ones from whom i can do this......and yea secondly i will only stay there for 2-3 months so wold i be able to do it within this time

and yea do you have any self grooming one by dupilex........does it include party make up and all.....any idea how much they charge and how long is it

just saw the link.. 1- do we have to use either one of these 2 shades or can b used both?
2- secondly G, pls recommend an affordable liquid foundation in Dubai whic has moisturising element since u had said mine mite not have moisturising element cus it leaves my skin dry after puttin loose powder.

3- Please tell me in numbers, when to put these things in specified order:

Sunblock
Primer
Moisturiser
Foundation
Strobe cream

i m ALWAYSSSSSS confused how to put all of this on my face and in what order.

4- Whenever i put liquid eye concelear (almay, american brand) i blend it nicely but its still blotchy but worst of all, it still shows my deep underlines… how to solve this prb? i hve seen my lines are 1000 times more prominent in make up :frowning: crying

thanksss!!!

I havent seen Bobbi Brown products readily available in Lahore but MAC i have seen in Alfatah, Roop Singhar etc. and those are limited products too. Its such a pity that proper Makeup counters are not available too. You just go point out to what you want to see and test it and buy it. I dont think some one can really judge foundations, concealers right there and then withotu any help.

Re: Gina & others need your help - Applying make up

Since you have tried MAC Concealers so which one out of these were you most satisfied with? I have an Asian wheatish skin, a little blemished too i will need proper coverage of the concealer.Which one would you recommend? Tube? Bottle? codes/shade?
Concealer from M·A·C Cosmetics UK

I have heard of many in fact a lott of people who use MAC Foundation Studio Fix Fluid and MAC Studio Fix Powder plus foundation. Can you help me short list the specific shades that can possibly suit me?

Studio Fix Fluid SPF15 | M·A·C Cosmetics UK

Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation | M·A·C Cosmetics UK

hmm I apply concealer after the foundation ....I find that it blends in better and this way the concealer isn't rubbed off by putting foundation on top

Undereye- MAC select cover-up in a slightly lighter shade.
Blemishes- MAC StudioFinish spf 35

I have both those foundations but to be honest I wouldn’t really recommend them. The powder gives light coverage but isn’t great for the heat or oily skin. The fluid is pretty good (long lasting etc) except one thing and that’s that the NC shades (which we mostly are) are yellow/orangey so it’s hard to find a good match and you can end up looking darker than you are.
I’d say you’d be anywhere from NC25-NC40.

A make-up artist I know actually says when she has to use MAC she just uses the concealer (studio finish) mixed with moisturiser and sets it with powder. Apparently it’s very similar to the Full Coverage foundation I have.
Why don’t you try that first, since you will be buying a concealer anyway? And if you don’t like it, then try the foundations.

mall, you need to make sure the area is properly moisturised. forget the concealers for a minute, when you're next out try dior skinflash (psq will vouch for this being the best make-up prod i've ever recommended). if that's blotchy or shows up your lines, i will be sad :(

is this for undereye area? I use clinique all abt eyes before i put conceler but it dusnt help at all.. its bad when i put conceler with lies being visible, its even worse when i put loose powder after conceler.. pls recommend somethin affordable.. i dun wanna spend alot of money.. i wud have 3 items in the same price as dior.

^what do you mean by lines being visible? do you thoroughly moisturize that area? maybe you need a different foundation....something that is more moisturizing....what foundation do you use? my sister has the same problem as you so we got her to go to a clinique counter and get a foundation for dry skin

i have deep, v visible 2 lines underneath each eye. i put clinique all abt eyes there. i use rimmel foundation or max factor... i used to put this liquid foundation under eyes but then my sis told me i shudnt b doin that, and that u put only concelears in eye area.. so i got almay line concelear but it dusnt help, infact its prominent just like it used to b when i put foundation under eyes. is there any great foundation that is able to hide all these lines.. they r v deep!!

ok I'm not an expert like Gina but I'll try to help you....Gina do come and correct anything

ok so I have personally never used rimmel or max factor but I would suggest getting a different foundation.....I use clinique superbalance for special events and for daily minimal sheer coverage I use Estee Lauder....ok so definitely invest in a more expensive foundation because it does make a difference (for me it did since I actually had a neutrogena foundation at one point and it was not working well on my skin).....sometimes when foundations get old they tend to get a funny texture.....next I personally apply a tad bit of foundation around my eyes after moisturizing to even out the skin tone in that are before applying a concealer because this way yo have a creamy base for the concealer

hopefully this can help
I would suggest the following foundation if you need a lightf daily converage .....Estee Lauder's natural finish (although I am not sure what sorts of colors they carry a more wheatish complexion)
my sister has a wheatish complexion so she got a clinique foundation and it matches her quite well.......mac foundations are also good for wheatish skin tones but I find mac foundations to be very heavy personally

Re: Gina & others need your help - Applying make up

thanks so much ... appreciate ur long post. but i seriously dun wanna spend money on huge brands like the ones u mentioned. i do not work anymore so i cant afford these. maybe Gina cud recommend some gud affordable brands. even maybeline, rimmel nd others are sold in dubai at a v expensive price as compared to US UK. my sis was shocked to see how expensie maybeline was when she converted in dollars.
i have a slightly fair complexion... thanks alot!!\

np!
yeah i haven't used other brands much so can't really give you advice on that.....but clinique was not expensive at all deary it was 20 bucks for a fairly large bottle!!
try the suggestions first with your current foundation (if they are not that old that is ) maybe that will help a lot and not cause you to get those lines

edit: I am not sure how much clinique foundations are sold for in dubai

Mall, the "lines" u refer to are actually wrinkles and with makeup/concealer it will crease and make them more prominent. For dark circles u need a highly pigmented concealer.. and for the fine lines a liquid concealer.

1.) moisturizer
2.) sunblock
3.) concealer or foundation
4.) foundation or concealer

Some girls with dark blemishes apply concealer twice.. and dust it with loose powder.

Affordable brands in Dubai are Rimmel, Bourjois, L'oreal, Revlong, Maybelline, Cover Girl..Red Earth, PIXI.

Re: Gina & others need your help - Applying make up

thanks G... 1) actually i wanted u 2 suggest one of the brands that has moisturising elements in them. so i cud buy that.
2) which brand eye conceler(liquid) do u then recommend for my wrinkles under eyes?
3) when do we use primer? i mean after moistuiser and before foundation?

Re: Gina & others need your help - Applying make up

This may sound silly, but I have to ask (I forgot/was too shy to ask the Clinique lady today) -

the under-eye concealer, can we use that for our face as well? or would they generally be different shades or something?
