‘Gilgit and Baltistan India’s integral part’
By Iftikhar Gilani

NEW DELHI: Continuing its newfound pro-active stance, India on Friday said the Gilgit-Baltistan region known as Northern Areas is a part of Jammu and Kashmir and hence an integral part of India. In response to a question, official spokesman of Ministry of External Affairs said India has seen Pakistani media reports that some Pakistani missions are circulating new map of Jammu and Kashmir depicting the Northern Areas as a separate entity. The spokesman, while taking note that Pakistan Foreign Office has denied it has circulated any new map, affirmed that the region was an integral part of India. “We would like to reaffirm that the region of Gilgit-Baltistan is a part of the State of Jammu and Kashmir, which on the basis of its accession in 1947 is an integral part of India,” the spokesman said.

Re: "Gilgit and Baltistan, India's integral part"

this is the problem with disputed teritories. who should have gilgit and baltistan? should it be india or should it be pakisan or should they form an indepdent greater state of Kashmir?

Re: "Gilgit and Baltistan, India's integral part"

Interesting...Any more insight into this situation...?

Re: "Gilgit and Baltistan, India's integral part"

no but from what i know the indians have not really claimed this far west right? when it makes such statements does nt this derail any ground gained in the peace process?

Re: “Gilgit and Baltistan, India’s integral part”

what is interesting?

this is the age-old Indian view - that the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir is Indian territory. the are simply re-confirming the view in light of reports that Pakistan was circulating maps that excluded Gilgit/Baltistan from Kashmir.

they are not claiming any new land.

Re: "Gilgit and Baltistan, India's integral part"

There was a letter in dawn by some gilgiti who said that their culture is very different from rest of Kashmir and they should not be lumped together with the Kashmir problem based on the borders of the former princely state. They would rather be a province of pakistan or independent.

Re: “Gilgit and Baltistan, India’s integral part”

Why don’t you guys ever think of including the PEOPLE of those regions in deciding their own future?

Re: “Gilgit and Baltistan, India’s integral part”

when is the baluchistan referendum scheduled for?

Re: "Gilgit and Baltistan, India's integral part"

^ Hanuman-ji, Balochistan is not a disputed territory but Kashmir is.

Can this simple concept fit in your holy-monkey-brain?

Re: “Gilgit and Baltistan, India’s integral part”

of course Baluchistan is a disputed territory. just because India isn’t claiming it doesn’t mean it is not disputed. the Baluchi people obviously disagree about Pakistan’s ownership of the territory.

and what is with the religious insults? very classy…looks like somebody is angry

Re: “Gilgit and Baltistan, India’s integral part”

I am calling you Hanuman-ji because the kind of “intellect” you are showing here can only be shown by a sub-human monkey, that is, super-monkey Hanuman.

Take this for example. You say Bharat is not claiming Balochistan. Irrespective of whether Bharat can claim Balochistan (or Bangladesh/Tibet/Burma/Turkemenistan/Uzbekistan/Afghanistan/Tajikistan/etc. hehe), this is the fact that Balochistan is an internationally recognized and UNDISPUTED part of Pakistan, also accepted by Bharat-mata.
Kashmir on the other hand is an internationally recognized DISPUTE, and Bharat-mata also considers it a dispute.

So disputed territories like Kashmir/Gilgit/Jammu/Baltistan can not be equated with undisputed territories like Balochistan/Nagaland/E. Punjab/Assam/etc.
And so when a disputed territory is being discussed and some Bharati pokes his nose trying to raise any undisputed territory then he will only be called an idiot and a Hanuman-ji.

Re: “Gilgit and Baltistan, India’s integral part”

nobody has called Allah a moron or an idiot, so why have you resorted to cheapskate religious insults? this is very telling as to how you were raised.

who said anything about “internationally recognized”…please examine the definition of the word “dispute”.

Re: “Gilgit and Baltistan, India’s integral part”

When did I call Hanuman an idiot? I am calling YOU that, and the reason I am saying is obvious.

Well, everyone assumes that people who are taking part in these discussions are sane and rational people, who accept international norms, which is another way of considering someone “civilized”.

Whether Pakistan consider Bharat’s occupation of Srinagar and Jammu a dispute, or Mata-ji consider Pakistan’s establishment of the state of AJK dispute; the fact remains it is a dispute.

Re: "Gilgit and Baltistan, India's integral part"

mutatis mutandis....should we call you Allaji and your brain the holy-vapor-brain? please do not resort to insulting our religion or calling people names

Re: "Gilgit and Baltistan, India's integral part"

Yes, yes! Kashmir, Hyderabad, Jona garh, Manawadar ... are integral parts of Pakistan. Asom is an independent state.

Re: "Gilgit and Baltistan, India's integral part"

Princie - Do not resolt to insult our Gods unless you want to have your God insulted too. Whatever insult Allah gets because of this will be YOUR making because you are the one starting it

Re: "Gilgit and Baltistan, India's integral part"

don't tyou think all the necessary insights are right there in the original post? Somehow some Pak missions are circulating 'new' maps and the Pak foreign office is denying they issued the new maps.

draw your own conclusions:

a. The Pak missions do not get their inputs from the Pak foreign office
b. The Pak missions get make up their own maps in defiance of Pak govt
c. Pak Foreign office made a mistake (or tried tried some funny business) and now dedying it when caught
d. All of the above

PS: Haris - btw, why are you tolerating the insult Prince is posting on our Gods as well as other members? In one he calls Hanuman of sub-human intelligence and in another calles Rahul an idiot. Is this the sort of dialogue you intended?

Re: "Gilgit and Baltistan, India's integral part"

Kashmir has UN resolutions attached to it!

Why should one even bother with indian bhindoos anyway?

On side note, why do you coolies show up on Paki sites anyway?

Re: "Gilgit and Baltistan, India's integral part"

It's not their fault, it's our ****** politicians and head of JAAHIL sardars (or sar dards) who are giving chance to these people to point fingers at us.

There is no comparison between Kashmir and Balochistan.

Re: “Gilgit and Baltistan, India’s integral part”

First of all for all those muslims who have insulted the hindu God hanuman i would like them to read this ayat of the Holy Quran

And invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom, and good admonition, and argue with them in the best of ways) (Al-Israa’ 17: 125).

By saying bad words to Hindu Gods are we showing that we belong to the religion of peace.

you people could have avoided it but you said it yourself what you really felt.so what did you prove then??You acted like a Ravan or your God hanuman.
