Gift when going over to someone's home

So we are invited to hubbys ex colleagues home for chai. They live in another city and we will visit them when we go there. I have met his wife once and she is nice but due to lack of time and my busy schedule I couldn’t keep in touch with her so don’t know her too well.
We would like to take something to their place. Pls give some suggestions. I usually do home baked goodies ad presents but can’t do that coz we are staying with friends.

Re: Gift when going over to someone's home

Cake? Flowers?

Do they have children? If they do take something for them!

No kids

Re: Gift when going over to someone's home

i wanna know too!
would a gift card be appropriate? i don't like taking anything too specific if i'm not sure what their design style is.

Re: Gift when going over to someone’s home

any direction item, painting :hmmm:

Re: Gift when going over to someone's home

You can pick up something from a bakery. Or some flowers from a shop. I also have gotten pretty little dessert plates, serving dishes, decorative items, etc.

Re: Gift when going over to someone's home

any decorative item like candles, vase, pic frame or as DA said painting, plant, perfume for him and her,how about home cooked finger snack if they are desi mmmm cant think of any right now

Re: Gift when going over to someone's home

What is your budget..?
You can hardly go wrong with scented candles,or a nice plant maybe.
Once or twice, being in the same situation when I knew almost nothing about their taste or style,I just got some nice dessert bowls (set of 6) and once some nice drinking glasses.I would like receiving these items as well.

Re: Gift when going over to someone's home

chocolates

Re: Gift when going over to someone's home

I usually take a cake or pastries. But if you want to actually take a household item you can take a silver tray, those are very pretty, and classic.

Re: Gift when going over to someone's home

Jee acha :p

We usually only do cake or flowers..khaya piya bat khatam!

Or you can do what people in Pakistan do..give money before leaving n say " bas kuch lanay ka moqqa nahin Mila" once my mom made me do that by pre programming this in my head that I had to give money saying that even though I was more than happy to go n shop for them. :D

Re: Gift when going over to someone's home

pie/cake OR a floral basket! :)

Re: Gift when going over to someone’s home

Yup…yaad rakhna…!!..:stuck_out_tongue:

I absolutely love cakes. But the thing is that when someone brings it over,I am the only one who has to eat the whole thing and that is something I do not like…:bummer:
I once took a cake to someone’s house and they told me that no one is going to eat it at their home (it was a young couple and no kids),and I can take it back if I want to..(we were to visit someone else and they suggested we can take the same cake to them…!).

I have found ice cream cakes to be a better option.

Re: Gift when going over to someone's home

Budget?

Re: Gift when going over to someone’s home

i ended up gifting a cookbook since i know they love cooking- barefoot contessa in paris- and a pair of these- Acacia Salad Servers: Indigo: Lifestyle | chapters.indigo.ca

honestly, indigo is the best for these things!

Re: Gift when going over to someone's home

You can offer to make dessert?

You could do a nice floral arrangement, a fruit basket, gourmet chocolate, a picnic basket, etc.

I once did Edible Arrangements too.

Re: Gift when going over to someone's home

Flowers and something to eat is always appropriate when visiting someone.
if you want to give gift then it should be something household related. Candles, decoration pieces, kitchen items like special cutlery or glass set etc.
Don't give anything personal like perfume or bath lotion/salts. Gift cards are also not appropriate for such visit.

Re: Gift when going over to someone's home

I lovely hamper of eats from Marks and Spencers, you oick the basket size and pick the treats you want to go inside and they decorate it for you. I have done this in few occasions you can't go wrong.

Re: Gift when going over to someone's home

I almost always take sweet food of some sort .... esp if I don't know the ppl too well.
anything from a good local bakery/restaurant.

Re: Gift when going over to someone's home

Like others have said: something from a bakery, a floral arrangement or some sort of mixed gift basket...all appropriate choices
