Hi folks.. i am new to this forum… a 23 yr old guy… wondering if i can get some advice or suggestions to buy a gift for mom’s b’day. i was thinking on clothes, but being a guy seems a tough one to manage as i would like to see her wear those on her b’day… hope u guys can help:) . My budget is Rs 6000 to 8000. I was thinking more in line of a saree but being a guy don’t have a clue to purchase one and what would it require for it to be ready to wear on her b’day since i want to present it to her on her b’day for her to wear that day.. hope u guys can help.

hmm a dress sounds like a gud idea... but if i was in ur place... i'd go for somethin more permanent... i mean somethin like jewellery or something.. cuz a dress... its nice.. but after a certain point it is bound to get old and thus will be thrown away.. so i suggest u get somethin else... somethin sweet n simple.. dat clearly says i luv u mom!
jewellery wud b nice... or mayb a deco piece or something... depends highly on her tastes.. if there's ne thing she particularly likes then go 4 dat... but jewellery is the saviour kinda thing... u can get it 4 ne1 regardless of taste... so if there's nethin particular she likes.. get that.. otherwise just jewellery.. or mayb one of those i luv u kinda deco pieces...

For mom I like to buy a engraved decoration piece which said mom's qualities u can get it from hallmark and engraved her name on it best mom

Get her a nice sweater or a pair of shoes.. this is what I mostly get for my mom since she rarely buys something for herself and it's always about us, so just get her something that she can use during Winter this yr.

ok its your Mom, a person who probably rarely gets things just for herself.
So you need to get her something that she'd like to have but not go spend the money on. Theres a perfume called Lauren by Ralph Lauren that is JUST heavenly....and I'm really not one to be "into" girly things. But this perfume just smells so very lovely that its something I really love to have (but would never buy for myself).
I dont know how much it would cost over there but here I think its around 50 or 60 US dollars.

so i take it ur in pakistan...i suggest a locket on a chain...somehting that she coudl always wear all the time..or even a bracelet....i also like gifts that are more personal...like buying a really nice frame and putting a picture of u and ur mom in it...make it black & white...that would look nice...clothes is a nice gift, but its hard to find the right size and a colour that she woudl like..also, by this time next year, the outfit would probbly be out of style and she wouldnt have it anymore.....

Where do you live? If in US try www.varietysilk.com for best sarees, you can buy a decent pearl jewelery set for your mom.

we gave ami ji very beautiful gifts few years ago and she still remembers it.
We had an artist draw picture of nana ji and nani ji... ami ji loved it :~)
Once i had CD mailed to me from Pakistan with my nana abu's voice :~) his qirat ...

I was going to suggest a 'shawl' but since you seem to be more inclined towards getting your mom a sari and you want her to be able to wear on her birthday as well, I would suggest to get a sari that matches one of the blouses that she already owns because sari does not need to be stitched, it's the blouse that does and if she already has the blouse from another sari, she can wear that blouse with the new sari that you give her.

thanks sheer for your detailed response. i was just wondering that besides blouse arent there other things associated to prepare the saree...such as material, peticoat, fall, beading or pico..i dont know... can u pls help me in detail?

u can get all the things when u buy a saree peti coat,faal,blouse and everything in it but if u wanna fix it go to darzi but plz don't do that let ur mom do that of her own fitting

If you simply buy the fabric, then yes you'll need to have it made into a sari by getting a tailor to stitch the border, do embroidery, stitch the blouse and peticoat, etc., however, you can get the ready-made saris, including the peticoat and blouse, from any boutique.

A personalised jewellery piece would be nice with 'Mom' of 'Worlds No.1 Ammi' engraved on it...

a sari is a really good idea and u shud already know what her fav colour is, which part of pakistan are u from, Theres this wkd shop i know in Attock city.
