Thank you all for your responses.... i think i am gonna go ahead with a saree..... any suggestions or ideas on material, color, style, etc... my budget is Rs 6000 - 8000. thank again.

hmmm.. cant really help u much in dat... cuz i dun live in pak!
but in terms of material design etc... depends highly on wat ur mom likes 2 wear... try havin a look thru her wardrobe if possible... n notice the type of colour she wears.. n wat sorta materials they mostly r... n then get a saree according to dat..
try n notice.. whether the clothes r mostly heavy.. or simply embroidered.. or plain.. etc...

dear wish... many thanks for your prompt response..... to help you advice me... she wears both thin material (there is a name to it whihc i dunno) as well as cotton and silk type...and as for colors both light, dark and medium shades.. but not shocking colors and terms of thier look, she doesnt wear very heavy clothes... usually light embroided or light designed. And then how should i go about getting other things in place which will be required with the saree since i want to gift her a complete set which is ready wear at that moment. thanks agian for your advice and sorry for being a bother.

Get a silk sari with light embroidery/design. You should get the fabric for the blouse with the sari. Ask the sales guy to show you the fabric for the paiti coat. If possible take a sister/female cousin/female friend with you, otherwise the sales man might rob you ;-)
If she has any saris in her ward robe, take the blouse and the pati coat to the tailor for measurement and sample. And also ask the tailor to stich the fabric under the border of the sari, I don't know what is that called but the tailor should know. If possible then take it to your mom's tailor.
