My friend from work is throwing me a baby shower, and her sister is letting us hold it at her house. My friend is very attached to her 5 year old niece, so I thought in addition to getting a hostess gift for my friend, I would get her niece something she might like.
Any suggestions? What’s in these days for 5 year old girls in the US?
i would ask if the girl is tomboyish or likes girly things.. and then go from there.. i recently gave a 5 yr old a color with numbers coloring pillow since i figured she is learning bout numbers so it will be fun and educational… but nopes.. she was more insterested in what her silly bro got.. a dart game
my 4 yr old bought this bathtime princess ariel recently and she loves it, it changes hair colour with water and floats with the little flotation ring included. comes with a little brush and a baby flounder, very cute. what i like best is that it doesn’t have those weird barbie curves, so its not inappropraite for a 4-5 yr old.
How about activity books? You know the ones with puzzles, reading stories and colouring activities etc in them? You can even get specific princess/whatever ones. I remeber buying my sister a Charlie & Lola one some time back.. it kept her busy, she found it fun and it was useful aswell (reading etc).
Or kids reading stories? (you get those nice big ones with loads of stories in them)
Sorry, but I’m a big fan of giving young kids fun books as gifts as well as pretty stationery (art sets etc).. ahh yes ok I’m a nerd
My 4 year old daughter (but she likes to refer to herself as "I am turning 5") loves sticker books (or anything with pretty stickers that she can stick in her room) and stencil books.

PS Have fun in your baby shower :)
Haha, your daughter sounds adorable, m'A.
And YEP thats what I was thinking of.. Sticker books! So much fun, especially for lil girls I think.
water color set or those crayola washable paints/marker/etc (there's one called crayola wonder, that was a hit with my 5 yr old niece!)
a pink/princessy puzzle
play doh
bead sets for making their own jewelry..
a book (robert munsch has good stuff specially 'i love you forever' or disney princesses or smthn)
just make sure whatever it is, its wrapped n all pretty... my niece hates it when i just stuff everything in a gift bag with tissue paperon top =D
the 5 year old i know wants a playdoh pretend food making thingie set, so thats what she's getting! i also got her a set of mini baking things that she can actually use to bake stuff with, if she likes.
Get her some creative activity set. You can get these lovely boxes full of art supplies or different beads crafts, etc. Little girls that age love that stuff.
