Also, if your relationship has taken place mostly through the Internet/online…then do keep in mind that you will learn more about his character when you interact with him face to face. So even if you do decide to test him online…it may not exactly give you a clear picture because you won’t be able to see his facial expressions or hear the tone of his voice.
You say that you him are distantly related. Are there any common relatives (maybe a cousin around your age) that knows him well and might give you an idea about his character? Then again, you’d have to pose the question in a way that won’t cast any suspicion on you. That’s another possibility, but it too comes with risk.
In general, relationships are risky (don’t come with guarantees). And that said, I think you should just talk to him about the issue of anger. He’ll appreciate that more than any games.
