Do you guys have any suggestions as to what fabric is best for a gharara? I don’t want the gharara to look too poofy and want it to have a nice fall. I was thinking of chiffon but someone told me that you can’t have a lot of kaam on a chiffon gharara but I really like the fall of a chiffon gharara. Have you guys worn a chiffon gharara with a lot of kaam?
And it is possible to have a jamawar gharara with a lot of kaam and a nice fall?
ive worn ghararas made of chiffon, cotton!! and jamawar...
chiffon has a beautiful fall, and mine was quite heavy - every "booti" had kaam on it...plus on the goat and the paincha...so no problem there....its very high maintenance coz if u trample it with ur heels, it wil rip very easily!!! ( ive done that too :( )
if u go for jamawar, u gotta make sure it is PURE jamawar - but it from a trusted shop keeper not the typical pathans who keep telling u , "baji abhi iss ko machis sey jala key dikhatey hein yeh pure kapra hai"!!! PURE silk/ jamawar has a beautfiul fall/ it is slimming..whereas artificial silks tend to look POOFY
COTTON gharara was made just coz my in laws LOVE ghararas - my mom in law only wore ghararas the first 30 years of her life!!! i got a coton cloth with some artificial material mixed in it, so it wud have a nice fall, and it did!!
isnt there such thing as chiffon jamawar...which is like a mixture of the two? I tried on a gharara made of this material before and the fall was SO gorgous and the shirt was made of the same material and boy is it figure flattering.
yeah candyapple u got it right...my gharara was made of chiffon jamawar, thats y i said every "booti" of jamawar had work on it...thats the most flattering cloth possible.. :)

haha what does a machis do to a pure kapra? the pathans in Karachi will tell you anything to sell their stuff! They are annoying yet hilarious!
Yeah I love the fall chiffon has. I finally decided on making a gharara for the wedding since I think they are the epitome of classiness but the 'poofiness' factor scares me! Coz you want to be able to carry it gracefully as opposed to dragging it! But jamawar is a richer fabric and ideally I would like to use jamawar. How do you decide what is 'pure' jamawar?
I had a jamawar gharara, and the fall was perfet and not to poofy. I've worn a chiffon gharara too, but as it's been said you need to be careful with heels etc.
my mehendi gharara was made of pure silk jamavar... it had amazing fall and drape. i think the cut of a gharara by definition makes it very graceful but of couse material helps too. i don't think you can go with pure silk chiffon though for a bridal gharara specifically... thats like dupatta material and its very light-weight so it might not hold all that kaam.
chiffon jamawaar gives a very graceful fall indeed.
very light and pure raw silk is also a good choice. Looks quite glamorous in photos.
kundani zari is the more expensive alternative to jamawaar.
Chiffon itself gives a very ethereal appearance; very elegant indeed but I would save it for some saris:) because of the danger of heavy kaam tearing the fabric or stepping over it......
although chiffon or jamawar chiffon gharara looks very nice...but it doesnt look good in pictures as compared to a pure jamawar stuff...If v talk about fall obviously chiffon or jamawar chiffon has a good fall as of a pure jamawar
hello ladies!
i have a couple of questions about gharara’s…
if i want to make the bottom in a silk organza material,
a) would that work?
b) what material would work for the lining?
i like how this skirt flows and i’d like to version something like the bottom half of this dress, into a gharara, minus the bow obvs- again, i’m not talking style, i’m talking materials - would it work? or would the gote at the knee bunch up and pouf out the material? and what lining would one use? it seems like they’ve used something and then a couple of layers of the sheer silk organza… Style Dylan | Priscilla of Boston
i also like how this organza flows and drapes along her body without poufing out- David's Bridal
granted, she’s also 90 lbs soaking wet, but you get the flow, right? lol
lazaro used to have their former collections online and they had this beautiful dress with pale, pale coloured threadwork all over it- in a very soft pink, a soft green, and a soft blue on ivory- it was stunning. can’t find a picture of it anymore though- boo! i’m hoping you can come to the rescue, mahismart
