Ghar Jamai

Are there any cases of Ghar jamai in non-desi culture?

I think the trend in desi society is also not popular nowadays. :hmmm:

Re: Ghar Jamai

there is one case which is quite popular!
they dont live with wife's parents but they live on wife's parents kharcha on seperate ghar.....:D

Re: Ghar Jamai

I don't think it exists in western culture. Among some South Indian communities like Aishwarya Rai's , the son marries into the wife family per tradition and lives with inlaws. This is because they are matrilineal system of descent and kinship. It is same with Nairs of Kerala. Both communities were claim descent from warrior communities.
It still happens today in many families.

Re: Ghar Jamai

Zardari was a ghar jamai

Re: Ghar Jamai

Ghar jamai don’t know :hmmm:

But I hate it when MIL and FIL treat their son in law like he is a president .

Re: Ghar Jamai

One of my colleagues used to live with his inlaws, as the wife's excuse was that her parents are alone therefore they need her there. Interesting thing is that even the boys parents were alone.

Really, I’m sure the HATE word say it all, otherwise I would have wrote much more

Ghar Jamai

Ghar Jamai is something not considered good in our culture/society,but nowdays I have seen a new dimension to this, now boys when seeking bride to be,ask their in laws to setup a business for them,or settle them abroad, etc etc I hv seen a very bad example of ghar Jamai where a young boy married his first cousin and went to live with his inlaws in Canada, after few months he came back because of the behavior of his wife to him was not respectful at all,and she had an affair wid a white guy whom she wanna marry but her parents insist her to marry this poor guy....

. They start feeling like Maharaja Veer Pertab Singh

Yes

Re: Ghar Jamai

wife's parents do treat their son-inlaw as a president! but why do they(son inlaws) also start acting like one?huh

Re: Ghar Jamai

Re: Ghar Jamai

Go ahead:cheer:

Re: Ghar Jamai

Hopefully if they respect him, he would also reciprocate as well. I think it’s a win win situation. I don’t like the way how these days both the girls and boys family’s try to bring the other under control, which can not only harm the marriage but also a source of continuous irritant.

Re: Ghar Jamai

Respect is the give and take thing u can't expect it if u don give it.i wish whoever the Gal's or the boy's family is doing wrong should change themselves in order to maintain peace in the household .
