Getting Married in September, no clue about how to arrange anything!!!! Please Help

Hi everybody, I am engaged to be married in September. So while i was trying to figure out all the logistics for all i have to get done i found this site. We don’t really know many people in Canada so i haven’t been to many social events or such so i have no idea what the options are. You guys all seem so helpful so i thought i’d get some advice.

  1. Location

We want the wedding to be in mississauga, toronto, brampton etc.. It won’t be a very large wedding probably 100-150 but i’m not sure which halls to go with. Some names i 've heard of from just the tv are payal and versailles. Are either of those any good? aRE there any others anyone can suggest? for me the most important thing is good food and good service, because i can’t stand it when you have to deal with a company or people who are rude or just plain accomodating.

  1. the dress

i actually only have to make the valima dress. I’m not sure what i want but before my grandmother passed away she bought me a silver and turquoise/blue set. Its fairly simple but very beautiful so i want to make something in that colour for the valima. i don’t want something too heavy either so I can walk around and i wont be wearing the dupatta on my head.

My mum and sister will probably be doing the shopping for me in Lahore.we haven’t been to lahore much at all so we have no idea where to start.

a) what are the best markets in lahore to shop for quality wedding clothes?

b) does anyone know any tried and tested darzans who are reliable and could make good quality knockoffs?

c) if you go to a designer like maria b what kind of prize range are you looking at, coz from this site i've heard really good things about her service but i don't really want to spend more than 2500 dollars for a dress. would that be out of her range?

d) where can you go to get jewellery made?

your help would be so much appreciated guys, i live and work in calgary and have basically no time off yet have to figure out some way to get all these issues sorted out by september!

Thanks!

Wedding- Welcome To New Jaasmin Banquet Hall

Get your jewelley and dress from Lahore. Everything here sucks! And for the photographer - I would recommend Atlantis Photography & Video

He is brown and very professionable. The only flaw is that he does not have a studio so you have to meet up with him somewhere. He is very reasonable. I simple love my engagement pics that he took.

He charges a little too much for developing the pics so you can always get the pics taken from him on a CD and get them developed somewhere else.

Hope this helps!

thanks skymoona! i'll definitely look into all your suggestions. do you know of any good dharzans in lahore?

here are my vendors- i hope they can help!

you really really should book your venue ASAP if you’re getting married this september. most venue’s get booked up a year in advance…
check fuzion banquet hall- its meant to be really pretty http://www.fuzionbanquets.com/
maple banquet hall is quite nice too for a smaller affair like a mehendi- www.maplebanquet.com

i got married at parkwood estate- Parkwood National Historic Site, Oshawa, Ontario, Canada for tours, weddings, events, films and movies in oshawa. their caterers are very good and will use halal meat if you request them to. its not quite your area, i know, but take a look- its about the same distance from toronto going east that mississauga is west.

cake- marmalade cake company http://www.marmaladecakecompany.com/

flowers- La Belle Flowers - [EMAIL=“[email protected]”][email protected] you can ask for Lina or Antoinette. they’re very good and reasonably priced!

SGC: wow your venue is beautiful! I didn’t even know it existed in the GTA! I have a friend who will be getting married soon and is venue shopping so I’ll definitely pass on this info to them!

I tried to contact marmalade for a cake to be made for a recent family function and omg they are soooo hard to get a hold of! I finally gave up after numerous emails and phone calls and then I get a response 3 wks later, after the event! Too late!! I’ve scratched them off my list of potential vendors for any event in the future!

hey sgc, yeh i know i'm late with anything but my parents didn't want to wait for next summer for summer so unfortunately i might be limited with some things. your wedding hall really is gorgeous, i did always want an outdoor wedding, too, heheh. what kind of food did they serve btw? and was it good?

chamak, wow, that sucks! sorry to hear that. you should have told them they were three weeks late! they were pretty quick responding to me and they were very reasonable- i ended up getting my three tier cake for $365.

and yes, definitely check out the venue- it is even prettier in person and really big and spacious, and the gardens make for amazing pictures. perfect for an outdoor summer wedding! they also have the sunken garden where you can have a lovely outdoor nikah if you wish- that’s where we had our ceremony.

sana, we opted for a “live” bbq, i.e. a chef made steaks to order. we had accompanying steak dishes and also a spicy chicken dish that they served with naan. we told them our halal meat vendors and they went and got the meat from them. the steaks were excellent- even 1.5 years later all i hear from people is how good they were! and the salad was phenomenal too. sadly, that’s all i ate but i had nothing but compliments from all our guests. i also really liked that the caterers provided a staffed buffet- it was a lot more orderly than people helping themselves.

some piccies of the food:
- this was really yummy! we had this plated and served at table. the rest was a buffet. it was really nice because this way everyone was able to ease into the food and there wasn’t a huge rush for the buffet line cos people were starving.

(thats the hubs right there at the end. figures he’d be one of the first in line! haha)

- cake (and bouquet)

luvly pics, SGC. where was ur wedding dress from?

SGC - more beautiful pics :) That salad looks awesome - at first glance at the plate near the bottom of the pic - I actually thought they cut the cucumbers into heart shape!!! but the other cucumbers are 'normal'...hahahah

You have such a good eye for all this stuff, all very tastefully done! I wish I could consult you before my wedding!

Re: Getting Married in September, no clue about how to arrange anything!!!! Please He

thanks guys-- i just wanted to show sana and chamak what the caterers did so they'd have some sort of idea about them and the venue :)

girly, we're all here to help you plan your day. open up a thread when you're closer to it and we'll do our best!

veer, i had a lady in pakistan make my dress. i've posted her info in bridal pics before- do a search for rehana mirza.

aww thx SGC you’re the best! :sara:

you really know how to plan a wedding sgc, i'm sure it was a really special day!!

Re: Getting Married in September, no clue about how to arrange anything!!!! Please He

With Venues, i suggest you avoid payal..when i went there i was not impressed, they "forgot" about my appt and i drove in from far away and no one was there to take care of us (very unprofessional), the place smelt of rotting carpet BUT they are alot more affordable than the ones listed below IF you are on a tight budget and you would have to find out if they have a room to fit the size you need...they might upstairs but that room is oddly shaped and its hard to navigate around and everything is in an awkward position.

I called a bunch of places for my mendhi and i have some prices listed for halls:
**
1. Premiere** - i believe they are not that expensive and they do alot for you and the hall is really pretty...cant remember their price but i think for 350 ppl i was running around 9 or 10 k....vaguely remember i went there several months ago asking and i know they arent in mississauga but its not that far either...i think maybe a 15-20 min drive on a bad day
2. Premium BH- **not sure if its in brampton or sauga but they can start from 13-14 dollars if you harass them enough! price doesnt include stage setup, but it includes everything else - food, table decor (not sure about centrepeices) an they can accomodate your sized group
**3. Candles Banquet Hall
- is in mississauga, its smaller so it would be able to accomodate your sized group (and for a standard menu they run at about 27 dollars a person including food, linens and napkins BUT chair covers and stage is not included)
**4. Sagan Convention Centre & BH - **they include everything under the sun in their prices, can cut the room short for you to accomodate your wedding size, and for silver pkg they start at about $20 pp - this is without bargaining.

Other ones include: Bombay Palace BH (wont answer their phone), , LaSuhaag (about $25 pp for silver pkg but i dont know what the hall looks like yet)

Upscale italian halls in the vaughn area run at about 35 bucks a person and up without food but include the standard linens, napkin, chair covers and sweet tables..some names include Presidente (very bland looking i think), Venetian (can give u a nice sized room and place is amazingly beautiful)

Re: Getting Married in September, no clue about how to arrange anything!!!! Please He

a friend of mine got married at the Venetian and the place looked stunning! i think i posted pics of it in one of the threads about decor- i'll try to find it.

Re: Getting Married in September, no clue about how to arrange anything!!!! Please He
