Getting furniture from Pakistan...

Re: Getting furniture from Pakistan...

my friend booked ALL her jahaiz furniture and TV and kitchen stuff+cutlery for about 50000rs two years back from Lahore. I think you should see if your family here in Pakistan can find out about shipping companies here

If the traditional style is what you are looking for then getting it shipped from pak is a no brainer in terms of costs and the cost to quality ratio.

They don't do modern well though.

What you have to watch out for is anything padded. Solid wood tables and headboards are no issue but sofas are a problem, the quality of foam can be hit or miss and you will only know this a few years later. Changing it becomes a royal pain, so make sure that seating surfaces are easily removable to change foam.

Foam flammability is also somewhat of an issue, it's unlikely but god forbid something happens, because it does not meet local flammability standards and was not disclosed to the insurance company, you could possibly have coverage issues in the event of a claim. It would depend on company but you may want to check and make sure. If you have to disclose then your premium could go up a bit but not massively. To avoid the headache, have the furniture maker certify the standards that the foam meets.

Last, make sure they have shatter proof glass on tables etc. that' should be the standard for safety but that is not always the case with glass used in Pakistan.

Meant tempered glass..

Re: Getting furniture from Pakistan...

Furniture adds more beauty to the house and it is considered as the best decorating tool to the home. There are many brands that are producing the best furniture with the modern designs and the unique patterns. Among all french furniture is considered as the reliable furniture and also more durable.

Re: Getting furniture from Pakistan...

Salams, Has anyone got information on furniture from Pakistan to England regarding Custom charges, Freight charges and wood treatment? I am going to Pakistan in January and planning on ordering furniture for my home from there.

Re: Getting furniture from Pakistan...

I was thinking to get a carpet from Pakistan but was wondering how do they pack it..if it's rolled then you can't put it in luggage ..

Re: Getting furniture from Pakistan...

The duty that you have to pay in England is totally dependent on the amount of furniture you bring. You might wanna give Customs a call and find out if you know the quantity of the furniture you plan to bring.

also dont tell them at all that its new furniture. Because then they will charge you business duty rates .. you are allowed to bring in your own used furniture at minimal duty rates ..

We are still trying to get some furniture over .. problem is we only have half a container and we are still looking for someone who can share the container with us to make it a full container , as full container is not only cheaper but also doesnt get opened as much at the ports , hence reduces the breakage risk.

Can I ask please, is it London port that you plan to bring your furniture to?

Re: Getting furniture from Pakistan...

angel, if its just a carpet roll , not worth the hassle , I can tell you !

Re: Getting furniture from Pakistan...

I am based in Warfield, Berkshire. So most likely it would be London port or whichever is closer. Where are you located? Where in Pakistan are you planning to ship the furniture from? We might be able to share the container...

Re: Getting furniture from Pakistan...

Hi - I sent you a message about bringing in furniture from Pakistan...could you please reply. Thanks

Re: Getting furniture from Pakistan...

CB please let me know the process also. How and where to book the container from and what is the whole process. I want something from there. A jhoola is on my list. a sofa set.
based in London
rugs
curtains etc
I have no idea how to go about it.

Re: Getting furniture from Pakistan...

Hey just saw the post , sorry for the delay. Unfortunately husband has other plans so we wont be able to share containers.
It was from Lahore that we were planning to bring the furniture in. What about you? i might know someone else who might be able to do that.. They are also bringing the furniture in from Lahore.

Re: Getting furniture from Pakistan…

Fizza, its been two years and we are still stuck with our furniture issues in Pakistan ! so you can imagine the hassle.

Basically you call up shipping agencies in Pakistan and tell them you need a quote. They come over and check the size of your furniture. you have the following options:

  • Book half container or full container. ( full container is cheaper but if you have half container worth of samaan , its expensive, so you can share container with someone else who might also be getting the stuff shipped to the same location )

  • Stuff can be carried as per Cubic measurement ( shipping company will be able to give that amount to you ) This is an expensive option.

Once you are satisfied with the quote, then you find out what Pakistan port charges youwill be paying. Sometimes shipping company helps you with the information, if not ring up the Pakistan Customs and find out.

Also ring the customs duty in the UK and find out what duty these guys will charge if you bring in ( used and your own previous ) home furniture to the UK.

Finally you pay a Packaging company to come and pack the samaan in a way that no breakage happens during the shipping , you also need to ask the shipping company if they will charge extra for stuff to be carried from your home to the port in Pakistan and then from the port in London to your home. so keep those charges in mind as well.

Yup, after all of this , you just wait for your stuff to arrive … We are still stuck on the cost issue! husband feels the cost of the shipping is not justifiable to transport all that stuff here :hinna:

Re: Getting furniture from Pakistan…

Thank you sooooooooooooo much :lifey:

Re: Getting furniture from Pakistan...

Thanks for your reply. My furniture would be from Karachi..I am travelling there in Jan 2013 to do all that. I am still twisting my husband's arm to get him to agree to this. I know its going to be a 'TASK' getting it all done but I am hopeful positive & hopeful that I'll pull it off iA :)

Re: Getting furniture from Pakistan...
