Re: getting driving lessons from spouse/relatives
Learning with women isn’t pleasent.
Hur cheez pe ghusa aata hai uun ko! I learnt from my mom in the begnining, we’d end up arguing after five minutes. I switched to my dad, never argued once.

Now I teach my brother sometimes and its all good! :k:
DC my mom got lessons off my dad and she too complained that he gave out too much
Dad is a very very quiet person and I’ve never heard him raise his voice … so when he used to be tensed and angry while giving mom the driving lessons, she found it weird too. She used to hate going out practising driving with him. Eventually, she booked an instructor.
I’ve already had lessons from a driving instructor. I now practice my driving with mom. She gives out sooooooooo much ![]()
Kithay marna hai? Othay mar! Gaddi kithe jarai ae? Othay peyo baitha ae tera? Ithay rakh gaddi! and so on… :hinna:
Re: getting driving lessons from spouse/relatives
I got lessons from a driving school in Lahore and the lady didn’t teach me jack. Finally my father taught me, but he was a really harsh instructor.. I remember there was a point on canal road Lahore, where there’s a slope on signal and you know the stop-at-slope-and-go routine, well I sucked at it. The engine would stop.
Everyday, I’d pray ‘ya Allah signal khula ho, rukna na paray wahan’ but Allah mian was enjoying my bizztis everyday.. hehe.. and every time he’d shout at time I felt like getting out of the car and jumping in the canal (no exaggeration really). and he wouldn’t stop at that.. baki ka rasta he’d go on and on about each and every lil mistake I had made in my life thus far..pure torture tbh but I learnt well..![]()
Re: getting driving lessons from spouse/relatives
Its weird, but I kinda learned on my own. Initially whoever wanted or had time would take me out for a day or two but then came university. I couldn't go to school without a car, i took the car to university everyday despite of not properly knowing how to drive. I learnt :)
Re: getting driving lessons from spouse/relatives
i learned my drving from video games and sneaking the car out whn everyone else was out and/or sleeping ... my sister did drive around with me a couple of times but i pertty much learned by stealin the car
Re: getting driving lessons from spouse/relatives
My dad taught me.....it wasn't too bad but I hated it whenever he contradicted himself
Rule: always make sure the car coming towards you is far enough so you can turn
So one of the first days of driving I was waiting to turn into the street, I thought I should let the car pass before turning to be safe but no he insisted I have enough space to turn...so I turn real fast....get honked at....and then get yelled at by dad
his argument: ultimately the driver needs to make the decision, if I thought I couldn't have turned in time, I shouldn't have.................
Re: getting driving lessons from spouse/relatives
haha this has brought back soo many memories.
One driving lesson with my father, didnt get any more as I seriously thought it would give him a heart-attack, God forbid.
Then a few with my husband-we stopped before we killed each other.I hated how he would try to ‘brake’ while I was driving.
Got a few lessons from an instructor, and it turns out I’m a pretty good driver ![]()
Didn’t take driver’s ed in high school.
Had lessons from my dad…and I’ve taken lessons from a driving school instructor.
Conclusion: Instructor is better in my opinion because you learn a lot more. Plus, with your family members, there is a greater level of comfort. This means that your family feels very comfortable and won’t really hesitate to yell at you…because they feel that they can get away with anything. After all, you’re family and rules of tact are more relaxed.
*****A professional, on the other hand, is trained to remain patient because they understand that a driver’s confidence level and emotional state is important in driving.
Ahhh..I can totally relate with the dad stories! Even now..when he sits with me…he’s like brakeeeee! haha Oh and for some reason he holds on to the seat..I’m hardly on a race track now am I ![]()
Re: getting driving lessons from spouse/relatives
Ur not alone...my dad holds onto the handles and makes it seem like Im going 80 miles an hour when its only 45!
Re: getting driving lessons from spouse/relatives
My dad believes tht u should drive at a speed where even if there was a glass of water on ur dashboard no water should spill from it.
Re: getting driving lessons from spouse/relatives
^ You might as well walk!!!!!!!!!
Re: getting driving lessons from spouse/relatives
I learnt to drive the car all on my own. I was already driving in Pakistan and Dubai without licence and when I turned 18, I had to do the mandatory 40 driving lessons in order to give the Final Road Test to get my licence and I did the 40 lessons in manual, to learn manual driving too and then got my licence. So yeh.
so funny! The truck one would have made me choke with laughter while driving ![]()
I take lessons from a female instructor.. when we have a red traffic signal coming up, she’s like “what are you going to do now” and I’m like “brake” and she lets out this big SIGH because we go over this every week and she’s like “no no no.. check your mirror before you brake” “mirror first” and “you should know this by now.. check your mirror before braking!”
I mean jeez, I heard it the first time
I just chose to ignore it ![]()
I’d love to have lessons from my dad.. he’s so patient that he’d let me make the same mistakes over and over again peacefully, unlike some people ![]()
Re: getting driving lessons from spouse/relatives
I gave driving lessons to one of my aunt in Pakistan (way back in early 90s) and God she had real problem in remembering which one is brake and which one is gas paddle … u do the math. … i mean hello??? how hard it is to remember 3 things , brake, gas paddle and clutch?
She used to live in steel town so we did all the training on almost deserted (but masterly planned) roads and still we ended up in a ditch twice when she did not turn the wheel back after making U turn
… Thank God those were not the Suzuki Alto days but she had Mazda 1500 (as rough and tough like Crown Victoria) …
I am a very patient man , but when I started teaching my son driving , I lost it all. :D.
And he had his driver’s ed. from school already before I took him for practicing.
When it comes to teaching driving every one has a limit of patience. I wonder why ? ![]()
Re: getting driving lessons from spouse/relatives
My mom makes an exaggerated Bismillah and holds the dashboard in dramatic fashion everytime I brake.![]()
