Geoff Lawson

I think Geoff Lawson will sleep tonight with his door securely locked and security guard outside. Truth be told, no one will fault the extra anxiety for this guy… ;-|

'Aside, I think the dude has a positive impact on the team in a very short time. Pak fielding has improved by leaps and bounds (dunno if credit goes to just one person). And there seems to be a plan in place to account for opposition - Pak beat Australia, Sri Lanka and New Zealand in this tournament and tied with India in the group game.

Kudos!

May it be the start of a long and fruitful association…

Re: Geoff Lawson

Hmmm...I gotta say if i was Pakistani, i would be proud of the team. They played really well and they deserved to be in the finals. I hope no idiots start burning effigies and give the players a hard time. Should be welcomed as heroes if you ask me.

And although i think its too early to give credit to Lawson, I definitely believe he has the qualities of an excellent coach. I think this is just the boost Pakistan cricket needed.

Re: Geoff Lawson

I remember reading many posts similar to your post after Woolmer took over ....well, three years later, the poor guy is six feet below the ground and we still do not know weather he was killed or died naturally….Even if he died due to a heart attack, there is absolutely no doubt that his heart attack was instigated by our heroic performance against Ireland.....I hope, two years from now, we will deliver our new "dude" Lawson in one piece (and alive) to his family ….that is all I care about.....

Re: Geoff Lawson

think its too early to say how good he is.

Re: Geoff Lawson

tun party lagti he.. or lagta he lassi-kulche par laga dia he.. no emotions.. coach should be more dominating..

Re: Geoff Lawson

Again, seems like there is hope for pak team.

Re: Geoff Lawson

I think better fielding had nothing to do with Lawson
Put those lads like Inzy, Rana, Sami, kaneria back in team and you'll see it degrading again
It's more to do with the young boys on the field than those practice sessions of Lawson

Re: Geoff Lawson

^ Also the military training the players had with the army in APS (Abbottabad Public School) seems to have improved their fitness somewhat and they certainly looked sharper in the field......it's another matter that Actor decided to take it to another level by hitting his own teammate with a bat

Re: Geoff Lawson

^^ :hehe:

Re: Geoff Lawson

we are blaming actor too much .... may be he was just checking Asif's strength :)

Re: Geoff Lawson

Lol, All said and done, I still can't understand what's wrong with Akhtar
Hate it or love it, He was mighty good when he made his debut and to some extent he still is. Don't know why he keeps doing the things he does.
I almost break into sweat thinking how good Pakistan would have been in the bowling deptt if this idiot wouldnt have got himself into such a soup.
Wish to see more of him(on the field though and not in the pavilion)

Re: Geoff Lawson

Right. This thread is about Shoaib Akhtar. Thats what the title says right there.

Re: Geoff Lawson

Face it.

Neither you have the lingo nor the wit to carry off a sarcastic remark.

You sound more like an agony aunt. Take it easy mate. I see the title and jazz. But I dont see why we can't be talking about Akhtar in here.

Re: Geoff Lawson

^ Says a gentleman with 4 posts here. I am impressed. Kudos! :)

Re: Geoff Lawson

*Mere Indian dost...*we follow certain guidelines here.

This thread is obviously about Lawson. If you want to discuss Akhtar , you may want to create a new thread OR post in any of the several existing Akhtar-specific threads.

Faisal is a distinguished member here and is well-regarded by most (if not all) of us. Your remarks about him are clearly uncalled for.

Re: Geoff Lawson

^ atleast the shoaib akhtar case shows that lawson cud do nothing in his case....
and perhaps that wud be a good example how lawson wud have failed to have an impact on other senior players as well....

Re: Geoff Lawson

To be fair, if someone decides to hit another person in a hotel room, there is pretty much nothing anyone, including a coach can do about it. So, I wouldn't hold it against Lawson, or for that matter anyone in team management. Akhtar is an odd ball, anyway.

Lawson hasn't spend a lot of time with the team. With the test series coming up, it will become a bit more clear as to who is incharge. Some of the tactics used by Pakistan team in Twenty20 tournament (holding back Gul till 12th over, changes in batting order, dumping Butt sahab) suggests that the team management is a thinking management and clearly makes out game plans. How much of a credit should go to Malik, Afridi, Younis and other senior players and how much to Lawson remains and will remain largely unknown. Its true that on the sidelines Lawson appeared almost detached from the proceedings, which is about the same as how Woolmer would sit, but is a huge difference from a coach like Miandad who is always trying to control the action on the field through his famous hand gestures from the pavillion. I guess a modern coach thinks that all the training and coaching is prior to the game, and the cricketers are senior and mature enough to know what should be done on the field.

Re: Geoff Lawson

ps. Thanks Some1.

Re: Geoff Lawson

That's exactly what I was going to say

One of Shoaib Akhter's many quotes, "apnay mele kapray bahar na dhoyen"
bhyy tum kapray itne mele hee kyon honay dete ho k bahar ja k dhoney paren, ooper say becharay Asif ko bat bhi maar diya!!

(ps....waise Afridi ne khoob chughali kee :D......seedha press ko ja k bata diya warna ma'amla shayad waheen rafa dafa ho jata)
