Rauf Klasra on how the defenders of the nation barged into the house of Shaheen Sehbai and put a pistol on the head of the son and told him to tell the father the consequences of his reporting. One of the intruders suggested to kill the kid to give Sehbai a lesson. Rauf Klasra was threatened as one of his story included the names of some corrupt generals which resulted in distortion of image of the Armed forces.
How are they different from a common criminal or a thug?
There is something so fundamentally defective about this kind of statement, and mentality behind.
Everytime Army's top brass is constructively criticised for legit reasons, people bring in the *aam fauji *at the border argument as an emotional blackmail. It's that kind of emotional blackmailing which has made army see itself as demi-Gods, powerful above all, but accountable to none. And whoever dares raise a point about accountability and transparency from that institution is called traitor and public enemy number one. The country has turned into a garrison state because of this a 'civilian will always be inferior to a fauji' mindset.

Exactly!
The 'aam fauji' is just as much a victim of the army brass as the rest of the civilians.

Can you delink an aam fauji from his general? Do you think Jang Group constructively criticized ISI in Hamid Mir's case? The verdict was announced even before the FIR was registered.
There is no question of nurturing any demi-gods, be it Army or media. That's my point. As I said in my post earlier, we cannot barter one sacred cow for another.
-Geo will apologize, mey be pay a fine
-ISI will claim victory and claim to be an innocent agency
-Hamid Mir will dissociate himself from his brother's allegations
win-win situation for ALL...life will return to normalcy. :)

Geo was absolutely wrong to run a media trial on ISI/Army while the victim laid unconscious. I have made myself pretty clear on this issue somewhere in this thread. My post was a response to this statement of yours: "How an anchor-person sleeping covered in his blanket in a warm bedroom could be equal to a soldier standing guard at the border in the middle of a frigid night?". This kind of emotional blackmailing, and undermining of civil society to stop. Who decides who's more equal to whom?
You know as well as I do that Pakistan army neither views itself nor operates as bunch watchmen only there to guard the borders in the middle of frigid night. We wouldn't be in this bloody mess if that's all they ever did.
...This kind of emotional blackmailing, and undermining of civil society to stop. Who decides who's more equal to whom?
If I am entitled to have an opinion and express it freely, how it should become an emotional blackmailing and undermining of the civil society? What is the benchmark to decide that mine is an emotional blackmailing and yours is a godly revelation? You can disagree with my point of view and I will take it gladly. That's fine. But no one has the right to stop me from having my point of view, however wrong it maybe.
Army and the ISI have been crucified on this forum for their roles ranging from Mehran base attack to Abbottabad disaster in recent times and everyone has been a part of the bashing for all the right reasons, including myself. I am not at all for holy cows. But I do not want to create another holy cow in the shape of media just because I want to domesticate existing holy cow.
There have been far serious allegations on ISI chiefs to put them in the dock than a claim by an anchor-person for planning an attack on him. What are our priorities after all? I will again come back to my point in this particular case: Hamid Mir must get justice even If it was a handiwork of the ISI. But the verdict must come from a competent authority or a court of law.
Bring ISI under the law, but please do not create new deities.

Please. Don't bother getting all defensive.
I quoted a specific statement of yours twice to highlight the the level emotional blackmailing it carried. I did not question nor condemned your 'right' to have an opinion. Surely, there's a difference.
This whole argument that a solider's life is more equal than a civilian's life is thoroughly outdated and pejorative. My problem is with this statement alone, and the mentality behind it. No amount of context analysis can make such thinking acceptable to me. Simply because the zealous level of over idolising of army has taken Pakistan absolutely no where. It's that kind of thinking and attitude which has always undermined the need to build strong and independent civil institutions. It really is about time we stop this overly judgmental, black and white soldier-civilian comparisons. It'd be a good exercise to start using the word equal and equality for all citizens of Pakistan, regardless of who they are and what they do.
In regards to rest of your post which I didn't quote, if there's anyone who's creating a new holy cow, then it's none other Pakistan Army/ ISI who's acting like insecure and desperate Soviet police by calling for a ban on an entire channel. Acting above the law by already closing down the channel in various parts of Pakistan without any orders from court is not helping their case, at all.
It seems like the army and ISI is on trial here in PA by armchair judges and those who are prolly not even remotely associated with it.
Since when do we need to be associated with an entity to criticize it? Are we associated with politicians, bureaucrats, journalists, etc. when we criticize them?
When military interferes in every aspect of civilian life, give us the right to at least be critical of their role.
