What does GEO stands for?
What kind of programming does it broadcast?
It's basically a name-ul-badal for CNN. Current, up-to-date news 24/7. Not available regularly, you have to have cable/dish in order to watch it.
It's one of the finest productions of Pakistani media. Everything from attractive colors to detailed local reports.
First, it started out as an only-news channel, but now they are adding different programs here and there. Most of them are politics-related like : "Pitti-hui News (PTV news)", "Ham sab umeed say hain" (a parody on all the political leaders), etc. Hilarious programs.
There were also no commercials in the beginning but now they've got major companies running their five mins of fame.
The channel seems to have a bright future because the public has readily coverted to watching Geo instead of ARY and Indus.

its not out in the US yet. I think its being shown in Pakistan for now.
GEO means the urdu word “GEO” meaning live.
the owners are the JANG group of newspapers, and most of the staff work for both GEO and JANG/NEWS. Like Kamran Khan.

This is a good venture, I heard about them like 4 years ago, when they had ads in papers that they were searching for talent… I guess they discovered lots of it.
eddy, I dont mean to sound condescending here, but
there is no educational institution of international quality that focuses on the performing arts in Pakistan.
few take entertainment seriously in Pakistan
This isn't a multi-billion dollar industry we're talking about.

Abhi channel ka naam suna bhi nehien or critcize karna shuro kar diya.
So I guess I was right about most of Pakistanis attitude and that is that they won't buy Pakistani product simply because it's Pakistani, both back home and abroad. Then how can we ever progress if our people aren't even willing to cooperate??(oh and disregard it if you're not Pakistani)

The purpose of GEO was to give news about Pakistan right away to it's viewer so Pakistanis don't have to depend on international news channel, cnn, bbc etc for their countrie's. With GEO launched poeple could watch anything that happend in Pak before CNN or BBC aired it.
The channel went boom and within days became a rage in the nation. After all it regained the reputation for the nation.
That is what I have read in the jang article about this channel, and trust me they're telling the truth because Jang is known for speaking ill of Pakistnai media and tv channels all the time, this the first time I read something good about Pakistani media from them after ARY and Indus.
Now somebody up there said that they have started some nice programs for the channels too.
I really hope they start ARY and another PTV channel in the USA, prime alone is not enough.

geo news channel is like the up to date critisizing channel
they have the katest news but the good thing is that they are damn bold about whats right and whats wrong....no sucking up to the government or mushy at all..
infact on the night of the elections, they had model actors of all the pakistani politicians and they were making a fool outta them selves ( i mean the politicians)
it was the hottest broadcast of the channel!

naah mushy has closed down most of the other channels..specially indians.
from what i hav heard is that geo is more bold bcz its owned by journalists (jang group) and its a private enterprise.
most ppl even think that mushy doesnt want to create a bad impression on the media..
