I dun want to be off topic, but I was wondering if you guys have thought about bumper pads? did you go for the breathables one or just the ones that you find in crib set? did you consider these bumper pads as suffocation hazard?
I also just checked the Ikea website… sometimes I am leaning towards something that can be later converted into toddler bed so it’s a one time expense and sometimes I wonder if I will want a change later and should just go for a sturdy cheap crib and then invest into bed later! tough choice!
sgc and other girls.. did you guys make a list of MUST buys? if yes, will you be willing to share.. probably we can open another thread regarding that! I walked in the Babies R us today and wanted to bring everything home… everything baby is gorgeous and very much needed (wanted )
^ We used the bumper pads that were part of her crib set. She isn’t much of a mover, so i didn’t worry too much. I suppose it’s more of an issue now, but she seems fine.
The issue we are told is that newborns need very firm mattresses and softer ones are dangerous. But our baby was in the bassinet for almost 6 months, so I guess it was not really necessary for us. Her mattress has two sides, but we haven’t actually switched to the softer side yet, but will soon.
those links are great… we do know what we want for car seat and stroller.. Britax Marathon 70 and B-Ready.. rest, there is a lot of valuable information in the two threads that you have shared so I guess it will be easy now!
next on the list is crib and mattress so I am learning a lot from this thread.. I also just found out that traditional drop-side cribs have been banned in the US in 2010…here is the link:
I got the breathable bumper for my daughter’s crib.I never used any initially because she didn’t move that much…but once she got a limb stuck in the crib slats so we had to get one.
This is plainly my opinion…but I never got any of those crib sets although I absolutely looooved them…I knew I wont be using the bumpers and the quilt thingy so I just got a few crib sheets in different cute patterns and some coordinating cotton blankets to go with them…
I am still using them…
The plan was to get one of the crib sets when she was to be moved to her room…but that plan is still pending for various reasons…:hinna:
Sahar’s thread was very helpful.I was baby shopping around the same time and it helped a lot…
I didn't use the quilt from her bedding set either -- it's been mostly decoratively hanging from her crib. I was just thinking the other day that i could hang it on her wall -- it's got a lot of cute fuzzy glowormy creatures all over it.
i’ve registered for the breathable bumper because i’m still uncertain about the whole suffocation hazard thing with other bumpers. plus the sets that come with bumpers that i like are mostly over $300 unfortunately, the bumpers end up being the cutest part of the design and not usually sold separately.
the one i’m really wanting right now is this one- and finally, for this one you can choose to buy the pieces separately without the bumper- so might just get it and use the breathable white bumper i’ve registered for with it… http://www.babybedding.com/retro-owls-crib-bedding
for the mattress, i’ve also registered for a mattress pad- is that not a good idea, Sahar? i thought it might make it more comfortable and then i guess if they have a diaper leak overnight, you just wash the pad?
gah! i’m so confused!
I got a mattress pad…and the few times there were diaper leaks or major spit ups I just washed it along with teh crib sheet…
I think it might have added kind of a smooth surface to put the sheet on because the mattress itself has a plastic kinda cover ..
I don’t know…maybe you could do without it too…
at what point during your pregnancy did you start shopping? i just started my 4th month (13 weeks) i know its too early to shop but started to look at things as i HAVE NO IDEA. i figured around 6-7 months would be the ideal time to actually shop? when did you guys start?
i'm 7 months mA and i'm only just getting serious now with the bigger purchases. i did pick up some clothes around 5 months when i was in Seattle but that was mainly because of the convenience of going to a Target.
Like others said,I started getting serious about the bigger stuff around 6-7th month....just bought a few clothing items before that. And yes I was just too scared myself .But I had done all the needed research on what to buy before that so it wasn't that bad getting every thing together in the last 2 months...
BR.. there is no scientific evidence to indicate that bumper pads are un safe BUT to be extra cautious it’s better to have the breathable one just so the baby doesn’t get her/his limbs stuck while moving around in the crib and also to avoid the suffocation that the thick bumper pads may cause!!
