This is certainly true and probably is one of the big reasons why women are not paid the same as men. How do I know this? The job I recently got pays quite well and I accepted whatever they offered me initially without much negotiation. Turn out it is at least $10k-$15k below what it normally pays. I found out later. Such a woman I am. -__-

wow…that totally sucks.
I applied for a job in an industry that was totally new to me…in fact I was consulting Google aunty for definitions of ERP and CRM the night before my interview…went through 5 interviews in the company then threatened to turn down the offer if they didn’t increase it by $10K, stock options and an add’l week of vacation.
you always, always, always have to negotiate.
